CES 2013: Kaz Hirai Responds To PlayStation 4 Inquires

The International Consumer Electronics Show kicks of this week and electronics giant Sony Computer Entertainment is one of the few major industry players present at the annual event this year. Giants Apple and Microsoft both skipped CES 2013.

During its press conference, Sony President and CEO Kaz Hirai and Sony Electronics President and COO Phil Molyneux demonstrated what’s coming soon in the field of TVs and mobile phones and, as expected, video games took a back seat.

However, Kaz Hirai couldn’t avoid the inevitable PS4 question raised during a Q&A segment after he stepped off of the stage.

Here’s part of his response:

“We’re very happy with the way that the PlayStation 3 has grown over the years. Obviously a lot of interaction with the PlayStation Vita as well,” Hirai stated.  ”All of the gaming fans out there, you probably know that we don’t talk about future generation technologies until we’re ready to launch it in a big way.”

If the rumors and industry analysts predictions hold true, this year will be the year when new home consoles are revealed. And while Sony continues to keep all things PS4 related under wraps, we can’t think of a better time for Sony to unveil its next gaming console than during one of the biggest video game events of the year, E3.

With my latest thread I see a lot of people don't believe the next gen consoles will be announced before E3.  This makes no sense to me what so ever.  When has E3 ever been known to announce a new console?  That is right, think about it, they don't.  They give details about the new console they just announced, but they do not announce it at E3.  Look at this list below.

Original XBOX was announced in may of 2000 by Bill Gates

Xbox 360 was announced on MTV in May of 2005 and then released that november

PS2 was announced in March of 1999

PS3 was announced in May of 2005

PSV was announced in January 2011

WiiU was announced April 25, 2011

Gamecube Successor (Wii Codenamed Revolution) Was announced March 2005

Nintendo DS was announced January 2004

3DS was announced on March 23 2010

Gameboy Advance was announced on September 1, 1999

Do you see a pattern here? E3 is when they give details, not announce.

Quoting from another thread, why does every article say that ps4/720 will be announced at e3 when no console has ever been announced at e3.

He get's asked about the PS4 at around the 16:50 min mark.

Doesn't reveal anything though but it's pretty cool. It's a different interview than the one from the OP.

The PS4k and NextBox will be announced in the next two or three months... before the E3.
