If Sony doesnt release the Ps4 this year and Microsoft releases the 720, its game over for them. They have no choice here. Its either release this year or face bankrupcy.

I'm waiting for a release date for The Last guardian and FF XIII versus instead of a PS4 announcement, at least this year. I think I won't jump to PS4 without playing these two games first.
I'm not counting on the PS4 being any sort of technological beast and frankly, that's not why I'd be buying one in the first place.
As a PC gamer, I'm always going to be able to build a better box for more money, but that's irrelevant because there are only certain games I'm going to playing on PC. A lot of the games I enjoy will never be on Windows, so it wouldn't matter if I was gaming on a hypothetical billion dollar supercomputer that was inexplicably running Windows.
As a console player, I'd rather pay for a $300-400 MSRP box, which I'd gladly replace in 5 years or even less if a replacement became available.
I'm increasingly of the notion that console product cycles should be shorter and made cheaper, not longer by attempting to build "future proof" boxes for more money.
Why? By taking a look at the tablet/smartphone market and the speed at which it's been evolving and hardware is replaced (a yearly basis for major updates, generally 2-3 years for consumer turnover to their next device). Suddenly, grandfathering a proprietary box for 5-7 years seems like a dated and obsolete product model.
Console producing companies should make them cheaper so they can sell them for less or subsidize the lower cost with subscription plans.
I don't really need to pay $500-600 for that.
If the PS4 doesn't release close to Nextbox it will be a catastrophic mistake. I am a 360 owner who is looking to switch to PS because I'm tired of the lack of exclusives and costly Live subscriptions.
However, I won't wait more than 6 months for the next Playstation.

really? Geez show a little patience. If you truly think PS has the better exclusives and don't want to pay for online unless you want it repaid to you through free games and discounts (PS+) then wait a year (I think PS will launch 2013 btw)
If Sony were to release the console in 2014 I seriously doubt it'll be smooth sailing for it sales wise.
By that time the NexBox and the Wii U would be out.

NOPE.
I hope you were being sarcastic because if you really belive that you should probably seriously re-read that and see how ridiculous it sounds.

It doesnt sound ridiculous at all. Sony is in a difficult situation, and the PS3 did not have an easy first 5 years. With the Wii U dominating Japan and with Microsoft dominating the US, both unopposed for one year will leave Sony in a difficult situation in the market.
I dont know if you've been hiding under a rock, but Sony's credit rating has been cut to trash. This means that just to pay their debts Sony is gonna incur on an interest rate that should be about the 10% by now. That is a really difficult situation and why the Vita has not received a price cut. Sony needs money fast, they cannot afford any more mishaps or delays. If the PS4 fails to be competitive quickly, Sony will lose even more investor support since the Playstation is their most valuable brand at the moment. If that brand falters, theres nothing else preventing Sony from sinking like the Titanic.
If its any confort, i do wish that doesnt happen as i'd like to get a PS4 next gen. Believe me, Sony doesnt want to wait until next year.
