Crafting the Horrifying World of Siren, Out on PSN Tuesday

The SIREN project started in the autumn months of the new 21st century. I was very fortunate to have been surrounded by a very talented team of people on my team. Together with Game Director Keiichiro Toyama, Scenario Writer Naoko Sato, and Art Director Isao Takahashi, I sat down to discuss concepts. We then extended the discussions to excellent creators both internally and externally for a collaborative production effort.

We were on a mission to formulate a form of fear or horror that would resonate with an audience regardless of their cultural background, and to deliver that from a very intentionally Japanese perspective. Thorough studies sprung our inspirations, which then became our core for producing SIREN. No room for compromise, but plenty of room for the sense of playful creativity, we progressed to develop a Japanese Modern Horror that could reach out and be appreciated by the world. The feeling of hopelessness caused by close ones, who, one by one are transformed into your enemy, the dreadful or creepy feeling of seeing yourself through the eyes of others, and an environment unique to SIREN that pulled you right in all led to the bloodcurdling experience that only a game could take you through.

SIREN enjoyed a worldwide release along with sequential releases, and expansions into a movie, novel and other forms of multimedia, something that I along with the team are very grateful for. The most memorable moment was being approached by the master of horror movies, Sam Raimi, with an offer to make a movie based on SIREN. I must say this was a very rewarding moment for all of us who had worked very hard to make SIREN what it was.

I am delighted that SIREN will be published on PSN. Over time, SIREN is now re-introduced to a whole new audience. It is gratifying to know the experience can potentially reach out even further. This not only makes me happy, I am sure this will be quite motivating for everyone who was involved in the SIREN project to further excel in what they do in hope of delivering new and exciting content.

How long can you withstand the world of SIREN?

Sony Looking To Make Ratchet, Jak And Sly Movie + More

Now before you get excited thinking these will be major blockbuster hits you would be getting yourself too excited. There are actual several animated films in the works by Brad Foxhoven featuring some very popular Sony franchises. Whether this will be a straight to TV/Netflix type of deal or a limited theatre run is unknown but seeing our favorite franchises in any kind of animated film is always welcome. Unlike live-action films animated related video game flicks have been more kind to the games than movies as you have seen with classics such as Super Mario Bros. live action movie and Street Fighter (although it can be enjoyable). A Heavenly Sword animated film has been in the works for awhile now and is near completion, one down several more to go. These would make great additions to our Netflix instant queue.

Thank you Film Financial Services for the info.

New Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Gameplay Video, Treasure Design Contest Winners

Happy New Year from the Sly gang! 2012 was full of fantastic gaming goodness. Hopefully you’ve found some favorites (I know I have – Persona 4 Golden, anyone?) that you’re still playing, but we’re sure you’re already looking ahead to what’s landing in 2013.

By the looks of it, 2013 is looking just as good with the upcoming release of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time! Sly and the gang are back on February 5th for $39.99 on PlayStation 3 and $29.99 on PS Vita. If you buy the PS3 copy, you’ll receive the digital PS Vita version from PSN at no additional cost.

Today we’re here to give you a taste of some of the new gameplay you’ll get to experience. In case you missed it, we had an IGN Live session right before the holidays, with Glen Egan and Mat Kraemer from Sanzaru Games showing off the first few hours of the game. In that preview you got a glimpse of some of the gameplay mechanics, Sly’s samurai costume, his Japanese ancestor Rioichi Cooper, and a look at one of the vibrant lush environments Sly will be visiting as he travels through time. In this new gameplay video below, you’ll get to see how the team works together to pull a heist on El Jefe, the epic boss you’ll meet during your travels to Feudal Japan.

This is just a slice of how the game is going to break down but there will be plenty to do aside from that, including earning all of the costumes — which you’ll be able to replay the game with to find new collectables and hidden treasures. Speaking of collectables, we’d like to take a minute to announce the winners of our Sly Cooper Treasure Design Contest! It’s been quite a while, but we finally got a hold of the winners and are happy to reveal the two winning designs. Both the items below and their descriptions will be included as collectable treasures in Thieves in Time:

–By Case M.

–By Jaime P.

We had tons of entries and the team had a tough time choosing these winners, but we want to make sure everyone got to see their designs! Big congrats as well to our runner-up winners, who were also notified. We hope you’ve been enjoying the fantastic prizes!

Bet you can’t wait to start playing, right? Well good news — we’ll be releasing a new downloadable demo, so you can get some hands-on time with Sly before the game hits store shelves. Starting January 22nd, the new demo will be available exclusively for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Then, on January 29th, it will be available publicly to all PSN users. For those of who got early access to the first Sly demo from the Ratchet & Clank Collection, this demo is brand new — so be sure to check this one out as well! Stay tuned for lots more on Sly as we head toward launch, and don’t forget to pre-order your copy today.

Is Sony Hinting Towards a Tales of Vesperia PS3 Port for the West?

PlayStation 3 version of Tales of Vesperia to their Western audience since its initial Japanese release on 17th September 2009. Petition groups and websites such as the Aselian Movement on Facebook and the Tales of Vesperia translation group (who have already changed the text from Japanese to English), have crept up.

Now the fans are at a buzz from Sony’s recent PlayStation Plus poll set up by the PlayStation Blog as it faintly mentions Tales of Vesperia. It asks for PS Plus members for what they want out of the service and as an example for a Current Gen Japanese RPG, Tales of Vesperia is displayed next to Final Fantasy XIII. This is a rather odd choice of game for the PlayStation Blog to use because this is a North American based blog site so why is Sony Computer Entertainment in the United States mentioning Tales of Vesperia? The only other mention is that they said that these games aren’t available for the PlayStation Store. Is Tales of Vesperia being worked on as a PlayStation Network title for the West? Maybe Sony is trying to gather information on whether or not Tales of Vesperia is wanted in the North Americas. Follow the Aselian Movement and the official “Tales of” page on Facebook for up-to-date information on this controversial matter or stay right here on PlayStation Euphoria for all your latest PlayStation news, reviews and interviews.

Gran Turismo 5′s GT Academy becomes reality TV series in February

Gran Turismo 5′s ongoing GT Academy campaign – in which gamers are trained up to become professional race drivers for Nissan – is to become a reality TV show airing in the UK from February 4th. Get more details after the break.

The GT Academy series will air on UK channel ITV 4 on Monday nights at 8pm starting February 4th. There will be repeat showings every Saturday in the early evening and on Sunday mornings.

Sony and ITV’s show follows some 830,000 gamers from 14 European countries who signed up to the GT Academy, each competing to be the fastest Gran Turismo 5 players. The top six players were decided by a National Final event, and raced their way to a spot at the GT Academy Race Camp at UK track Silverstone last year. Then they were trained in-game, and learned the skills necessary to become proficient at the real thing.

The top prize was the chance to represent Europe in Nissan’s 370Z GT4 car at the Dubai International 24 Hour race which takes place this month. Previews of the show have called it tense and sees the gamers-turned-pro racers facing insane pressure in stepping up to the role.

Does this behind-the-scenes glimpse at GT Academy interest you? Would you like to see other games given the same treatment? If so, which ones?
