Forums - Gaming - DayZ Standalone Facing Possible Delays, Console Port Still Coming

NowGamer

DayZ standalone, the full release to Dean ‘Rocket’ Hall’s popular PC mod was scheduled for release in 2012 but could now be facing a delay into 2013.

DayZ standalone has been in development since the ARMA 2 mod shot to worldwide renown early this year. With the full release scheduled for 2012, and the game now running on a new engine as well as a new server MMO client model, it’s looking less likely that we’ll see it before the New Year.

Dean Hall explained to Joystiq recently that DayZ had run into a few complications saying:

"The architectural changes are scheduled to be complete next week. These are still on track to be completed then. But we don’t entirely know what effect these changes will have, if any, on everything else. So there could be a massive amount of unforeseen work that comes out, we just don’t know until it’s done and we test.”

And...

“Let me make this very clear, our foundation release (targeted for this year), is simply the beginning. We are committed to a period of development of at least 12 months beyond that. Our aim is to make this foundation strong, and use that time to improve the mechanics not through hacks, but through sound and quality development. Our initial build will test that this base architecture works.”

So while the PC version faces delays, this also means the anticipated console port of DayZ is also facing delays.

Hall has already said that a console version of DayZ depends on the success of the standalone PC version. Hall told Joystick on a separate occasion:

"You're not going to put it on the consoles if you're only going to sell 100,000 units or something like that," Hall explained. "DayZ will be driven by its PC development and it will innovative on that. And, once we're at a point, we'll take it and do a Mac version, 360 and PS3."
