Animal Crossing: New Leaf has notched up an eye-watering 721,786 sales during its opening week.

That number doesn't include digital downloads from the 3DS eShop. Early indications show this may account for up to 80,000 more.

...

I thought Iwata said it sold over 200,000 digitally on e-shop? Like, the worldwide president of Nintendo-Iwata.

That 200k included those digital codes you bought off retail stores. So looking at Famitsu, it looks like they tracked these cards, which leaves about 80k digital sales straight from the E-shop.

I see. That would make sense, I didn't even know such cards existed.

Other than that, the MIA Final Fantasy X HD (but will sell more on PS3, imo).

But ultimately, the answer to your question is, to me, either a new Final Fantasy (a la type-0) or a Monster Hunter (even a remake might do the trick - or both, like the 3DS) or a combination of several big names in gaming, with exclusive titles - like tales, resident evil, level-5 support, yakuza... etc.

Voted dead. If call of duty can't pick it up nothing can. It looks like those who said 3ds only sold because of mario are redeemed after all.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

Losing MH to the 3DS was a pretty big blow for the Vita (Japan).  It seems like the Japanese have almost zero interest in the Vita.

To me that's not true. They have interest, as demonstrated in launch numbers (not record shattering or anything, but solid, if not great)

But what came later made them lose interest (or better, what NOT came later*)

*pls... don't quote me saying this is the same as "no gaemz" cause it's not.

I'd imagine just because they were shipped; doesn't mean they were all sold.

Iwata said they were. I thought.

This thread is preposterous. At least wait for Vita's first christmas period.

In Japan, that was last year.

Bu-bu-but it was not a full christmas period! It launched on December 17 and thus missed all the ramp up time! Be fair!

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Greedy 3DS not leaving any pie (chart) for the others.

Remember the days of Nintendo Pacman?

I feel almost sorry for Sony for being swallowed in every bit by the 3DS. At least there's still interest in handheld gaming, even with all the doom and gloom about smartphones killing the industry.
