Forums - PC - Game: Build a gaming PC! - Highest performance to price ratio wins!

Idea here is simple...

Build a computer posting valid retail links to components and try to get the highest possible price to score ratio.

Scoring method:

The scoring is based on a points system and is calculated with the following formula -

( (GPU score*CPU score*HDD Speed*HDD Storage)/price)*1000

GPU and CPU Scores are determined by Toms Hardware lists.

GPU - scale 1-10

Rules and things to consider:

Case must be a decent case. (minimum 40 dollars).  No 19.99 refurbished IBM cases.

GPU SLI will score a maximum of 10 points and it's score will be refflective of the single card it beats. Example: GTX 560 Ti SLI =~GTX 680 = 9

RAM has to be 8 GB and DDR3 -1600 minimum.

Stock CPU cooler

DVD Drive not needed

OS not needed (everyone is going to use Windows 7 or 8 anyways for 99 dollars).

Mail in rebates don't count. Retail sticker price only.

Final price is counted before tax and in American/Canadian dollars (same value believe it or not). If links are from another country, please provide exchange rate to US dollars.

If you are building a PC the first thing you need to do is set a budget. After that you can squeeze every bit of power out of it that you can. Remember you can always upgrade later on. The first time it will be expensive but after that its not bad at all.

Yeah man I agree with the guy above me. State a budget first, then everything else will fall into place. Unless you have unlimited money, in which case you can just get the highest performance for the highest price.

Without a specified budget, it can be really hard to decide some of the more costly components such the CPU and GPU.

You two are completely missing the point of this. Its not a bible on how to build PC's... Its a game to see who can get the highest score.

Post some links, build a PC...do something! :)

good eye on my missing psu. ill revise that when i get home...

nice build but the hdd speed score would be a 6 for you. sata iii solid state drive gets 9. sata iii regular drive is a 6 :)

thats why i had 2 hdds...one for speed one for storage.

Neat thread. +1.
