I curse Nintendo's incompetence with the exclusion of phone jack. How will I ever connect my Netzero dial up service then? or Mom & Pop's AOL dialup service? Less Wii Fit online then.

I lol'd

I actually got my Wii dongle one for only 10 USD somewhere, it's not even expensive and worked flawlessly for MHTri, I'd think it'd work with the Wii U as well, will find out on Nov/18th

This has been known for quite a while now, since like E3... or even earlier I think. :/

Also don't see why it matters. People who have ethernet only are dumb. lol jk. but seriously.... who doesn't have Wifi in their home now and has internet?

Plus the dongle is already confirmed to be the same one on the Wii (so those previous wii owners are covered) or just pick on up for cheap.

It has wireless N so I don't care. If the wireless is as unreliable as the PS3's with that whole DSN problem etc. then I'd be concerned. But the Wii never had any wifi issues so hopefully it'll be all good.

TF are you taking about? There is no issue with the PS3's wifi. Check your router.

I'd love to know about this ISP which provides a >600Mbps internet connection

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1365019/Wi-fi-broadband-speed-40-slower-fixed-connection.html

Couldn't find anything on how ping is affected.

"Up to 40%" includes everything between 0% and 40%. Much like how broadband speeds which are advertised as "up to 60meg" can still be throttled and rarely reach that.

Also, the Daily Mail is a joke newspaper. Please don't source articles from it.

I don't read newspapers.

Is this better?

Anyway, ping is most important of all because it's a gaming console, but I couldn't find anything on it.

I'm glad you wrote that, and I hope more people read it.

Looks like this whole thread is a non-issue, and just an equivalent to a FLAC vs. MP3 argument.

I really don't know how this will affect a lot of people. Even in a "third world" (hate that term but let's stick with it) country like mine everyone uses wifi over cables. There's probably an add-on for that so I don't see the problem.

while i get what you are saying -- i still use ethernet on my ps3 even though it is mere feet from my router.  hardwired ethernet is simply faster and more reliable which is a plus for online gaming.  netflix runs better on my ps3 compared to my wii and i'm pretty sure the only real difference is ethernet vs. wifi.

Ps3 isn't wireless n though is it. Unlike 360 and WiiU.

You're right. But still Wired > Wireless b/g/n/whatever.

I would consider this move as a stupid one by nintendo.

you do know that the Wii also didn't have an ethernet port?

Didn't matter for the Wii since its online services were sub-par.

Both Microsoft and Sony offer Ethernet connections to their consoles because wired > wireless EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Wii and Wii U offer ethernet connections, look a few posts above you. You can even use your Wii adapter if you have already bought it.

Vita an external, hard to find add-on which takes up one of the USB ports.
No this isn't a deal breaker for those interested in a Wii U, but the negatives are starting to stack up.

*Rolls eyes*

I knew exactly what to expect when I saw you were the creator of this thread.

It could be a non-issue to you, but I am expecting at least gigabit ethernet on next gen consoles.

Is this irony or hypocrisy? I can't decide.
