Forums - Gaming - Halo 4 Best looking game this Gen!

I hate graphics debates. There is no such thing as a 'graphics king' and there isn't a single game that can be said to have the best graphics this generation. It's all subjective. I think God of War III still has the best graphics this generation but if you disagree I won't say you're wrong no matter how much or little I value your opinion.

There's a lot of beautiful games this generation so why can't someone just make a 'graphics appreciation thread' where we can post gifs/videos/screenshots of what we consider the best looking games both technically and artistically and explain why we think so and NOT argue which is best. I hate how everything on Vgchartz is either negative or a competition.

I looked at a few screens and didn't think much of it. After looking at more on Eurogamer though, I thought the lighting was absolutely stunning in some shots. The game has a very clean look. Not sure if it's the best looking game on consoles, I'll have to play it first before I decide that, from what I've seen I don't think it is though.

I watched the IGN review, yesterday and I thought to myself, "Yeah, it looks okay.  Nothing to complain about." but when I finally played it, I was actually surprised how good it looked.  I'd say that playing is believing, in this case.  I still haven't played enough to give a detailed opinion and it looks like that probably won't happen until late tonight, if at all.  I think you'll like it, though.

Some games do look a lot better in motion, screenshots don't always do justice.

I wouldn't be so sure that I would like it.
I've been very weary of Halo games, I tried the Reach demo and I didn't like it at all, but when I played a few games online and one level at my Uncle's I had a blast. I've been thinking about buying the game since then, but that demo left such a bad taste in my mouth. I've been asking people where they think I should start. If the new Halo trilogy from 4 onwards is starting a new arc in the story, then I might buy Reach and then do a "Star Wars", playing the newer games first and then revisiting 1-3 if I have the time.

Hey, I was terribly disappointed by Reach until the after credits scene.  Then, I played it again about three months ago and I really enjoyed it.  I don't know what happened differently.

After I finished Reach, we went back and bought Halo Anniversary and ODST.  I meant to replay the entire sag before Halo 4 launched but I only finished Reach, Anniversary, and a very little bit of Halo 2.  Didn't even finish the first level of ODST and I was really looking forward to replaying Halo 3.  Just got sidetracked.  Anyway, if you get the chance, give it a try.

Now I think of it, I don't think I've seen any PC games which I would say look as good.

Let's not go that far, or you will invite many PC folks to post screenshots / footage that will troll this place. ;)

In truth, Halo 4 is probably the best looking FPS on console(s), as well as best looking 360 title, but definitely not ahead of top PC titles. Aesthetics or otherwise.

Bolded and well pretty much the whole post i agree with.

Halo 4 looks great on consoles (Remember im a big Halo fanboy) but it cant be compared to the PC big boyz (Also PC fanboy)

Agree. Some of the amazing visuals I see CGI posting for his PC games is on another level.

Halo 4 is pretty darn impressive for consoles though. I loved the bit where you break into battle on foot with the cliff edge. And right at the cliff edge is the huge Infinity UNSC cruiser just sitting there. What an Epic battle. You cant even see te end of the cruiser its that big.

Halo 4 really is the best looking game ive seen on consoles. and if it had a res of 1080P and a bit more AA and a few more DX11 style effects imo it would easy stand with some of the PC big boys. But on hardware that is 7 years old really as a PC fanboy Halo 4 still impresses me with alot of what it is doing.

And with its art style etc, even on console it just looks amazing!.

Really Best Halo game ever, best FPS ever i just love it!.

Yes I agree. But I don't really understand why PC graphics get brought up. I can understand comparing console games to consoles games, but PC and console conparisons just doens't make sense to me. PC's don't even have set generations. My 6 Core AMD with 16gbs of ram and Nvidia 560 running Windows 8 With the latest Direct X on a 512 SSD is going to blow my consoles out of the water. But my PC gets upgrades a lot more often than consoles. I like catagories. PC is in one catagory and consoles are in another. Comparing Xbox 360 games to PC games is like comparing Xbox games to Xbox 360 games. Halo 4 does some amazing things with the 7 year old Xbox 360. I wish PC developers could put that kind of wizardry into utrilising my PC gaming rig to it's fullest.

Dude! you ahould of at least played Halo 3 before Halo 4

Well, I still have pretty clear memories of it.  It was awesome.  It was so good that I went back and bought Halo 1 and 2.  I wasn't even planning on getting Halo 4 yesterday, tbh.  I had just gotten Ragnarok Odyssey and WWE '13 the day before.  I was just a victim of circumstances.  Otherwise, I would have waited until closer to Christmas.

No, I stand by what I said. Its a personal preference. when I look at the best looking PC games; Crysis, Battlefield, Witcher 2 I can honestly say that I find Halo 4 more stunning. The same way I would say Mario Galaxy trumps many HD platformers in the visuals department.

It really isn't a personal preference when you make a bold claim like that. There are PC games that no console game can match, which truly isn't up for debate.

You can have your opinions, but it doesn't change anything.

"Now I think of it, I don't think I've sen any PC games which I would say look as good".. Emphasis on the "I", of course its personal opinion. We are talking about something looking "good" not realistic. I'm not counting polygons here, I'm simply conveying the impression the visuals left on me. What would you say is the best looking PC game released thus far?

When you say the best LOOKING game, people are going to talk about what is visually most appealing, realistic or otherwise. Halo 4 shouldn't even be put in a situation like that, let it shine on its own without having to compete with the likes of PC. And I said you can have your "personal preference", ypou just argued outside of it. Just my observation on it.

Noq as far the best looking games from me, when you can mod, it changes the game. Crysis 1 & Crysis 2, Hard Reset, & Skyrim all modded destroy what I've seen from consoles, and hardly anyone ever disagrees. Even Battlfield 3 on Ultra High Settings kills it (this while running at 100+ fps). In Vanilla, their console counterparts are still no match. Couple that with the fact that consoles can barely pump out 30fps @ 720p half the time, while PC's constantly can run many games higher resolutions and fps without breaking a sweat and that is why people are arguing with you.

I've seen your posts since you got your PC, and how you seeked and continues to seek attention about it...

Strange how getting a decent PC completely changed your speech about how artistic merits and such make a game beautiful. That the raw tech behind a game's visuals aren't what makes a game beautiful or not...  Falling into the PC elitist trap much, eh?

I have never changed my thoughts on what makes a game appealing to me, and if I have, please, compare and contrast.

Also something to note about being called an "elitist", it's usually from someone with a complex. If you have an issue with how I've presented my stuff, to people that actually cared, ignore it. It's of no consequence to you.

Ah, don't worry. I don't really care what you think. I just wanted to point out your change of speech and position. Of course, since you have never admitted to being wrong when called out on something, I didn't expect more than what you replied. ^_-

It's never a good idea to claim "x" individual has done something and then have zero to back it up. This isn't the first time you've pulled this either, but it's, again, of no consequence.

What, you want me to go through your post history and post links to the comments you made when, back then, people with your newly found enthusiasm for PC tech would come in threads about Console graphics being the greatest (Like Killzone 2, God of War 3 and Uncharted 2) and you'd argue that artstyle, design and even engine tricks would make you say that they still had a shot in your eyes?  Hum...  Sorry, I know you remember those times. So no, I'm not going to waste my time going through your post history just to pinpoint what I know you remember full well. You may have found a new bias, but I don't think it made you stupid.

This is not up for dispute, I'm just stating my opinion lol. It looks so F-ing incredible! Anyone else think its the best this console gen (so far), or is Uncarted 3 still king in your eyes? I'm hesitant to post any screen shots/comparisons because none of them do the beauty of the campaign any justice. I just want to hear from people who have actually played the game.

One things for sure, if a 360 game can look that good imagine what Metroid Prime will look like on Wii U!?!?!? *faints*

On X360 yes.  The scenery, world, guns, everything looks great.  I like how they put you behind Masterchiefs visor and make you feel like you are on a whole different planet as some of the scenery is huge.

Including PS3 you could argue between Uncharted and Halo 4.  No need on comparing as they all look good for being on consoles which are both limited.

If we are including PC not even close.

Good point. Be happy with what you got. Some people can't enjoy something without thinking it is the 'best' while it may not.
