Forums - Sony - Sony to Start Manufacturing PS3/PSV Consoles in Brazil?

What console will be manufactured by Sony in Brazil?

PS3 22 40.00%

PSVita 7 12.73%

PS4 10 18.18%

Telegame 8 14.55%

See the results 5 9.09%

Total:52

I'm here @M.U.G.E.N.

Official PR "Sony Brazil is constantly working to increase its national portfolio and assist in improving more and more the Brazilian economy. However, there is no forecast for local production of the PlayStation 3 console at the moment."

Cold water, no? I don't know for what Sony is investing 100 million Reais (Brazilian's currency).

"telejogo" is a dirty word even for us lol.

Eu acho melhor ou PS3/PSV.

Why would manufacturing in Brazil make much change to price?

Does brazil have huge import taxes imposed on companies to try and encourage them to manufacturer locally?

Sony announced, last week, investimens of R$ 100 millions (U$ 50 millions) to produce what they called "telegame".

The approval of a R$ 100 millions Sony project by the Superintendency of the Manaus Free Zone (Suframa) is surrounded by mystery. Possibly for reasons of confidentiality, it's unknow which product will be manufactured in Brazil by the Japanese company. The text submitted to Suframa by Sony cites only the term "telegame". Within the range of Sony's consoles, it can mean both the Playstation 3 and the PS Vita.

My thoughts: the brazilian market has more than 40 million costumers and the PS2 is still the leader here, with this move Sony is aiming to make PS3 or Vita more accessible (more cheap) to us.

nah in my opinion the main reasons are rather that china is just getting too expensive and too politically troublesome, so they need options

The 360 price dropped 40% after MS did that here.

Maybe this time it'll start being sold under U$ 600,00 or so.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were going to manufacture PSone consoles and reprints of the old games.

The Sega Master System was sold in Brazil well into the 2000's.

lol that is true, by the way TecToy the company that seels the Master System and the Genesis here sold more than 150k unites of both consolse (combined) last year.

I wish the USA loved SEGA as much as Brazil. If it did we'd be playing on Dreamcast 2 right now.

I miss Sega hardware. Sega consoles were always the coolest.

There are huge taxes for importing consoles, but I think there's more to it: another factory producing consoles to sell to South America (Mercosul specially), very low taxes for a long time (Zona Franca de Manaus) and a big market that's blooming lately here (Brasil!).
