Forums - General - Disney Buys LucasFilm; New Star Wars Movie! ........ What? UPDATE: Lucas' Reign of Terror is OVER!

My reaction was literally: Yaaaaaaayyy!!

I always thought Lucas would do a final trilogy while he was alive, but i am happy to see that its coming to. A new movie every 2-3 years like James bond also sounds good. Imagine all the side story's that are untold and can now be told (there are lots of books to draw from already aswell).
A movie of Knights of the old republic and the Story of Revan is something i always dreamed to see on the movies. Its one of the best Star wars stories in my opinion.

and.... I'll be there day 1 to watch Star Wars 7.

I'll see you there.

Can we create a hypetrain? Soooo there.

Right now I'm riding the Halo 4 hypetrain, but when it arives at the station I'll board the 2015 for SW7.

Sure I will be there if they made an Episode 7-9.

As a ginormous Star Wars fan though, I say they shouldn't make any more movies. The story of the movies is purely about the life of Anakin Skywalker. That's done. Filming novels is also not the way to go, those stories already exist in Star Wars canon, making movies out of them would only screw things up.

Everything officially made in the Star Wars universe is equally canon, from the movies to the books to games. I have whole 'history books' about Star Wars that tell of all these events in all the media in the same vain as the movies, as if they all really happened.

Making movies with a new story somewhere far in the future (relative to the original movies of course) would just be weird, unfamiliar character, unfamiliar locations and unfamiliar events. If anything, I think the best course of action is to make a live-action series of some sort, telling a side story like most games do.

All in all, I think it's a great combo. Disney and LucasFilm. Consider what Disney will be getting out of this deal, it's huge. From ILM and SkywalkerSound to LucasArts and the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. I love Disney too, and I hope this all means we'll also be seeing more Star Wars or Indy themed attractions at Disney's theme parks!

EDIT: Also, the prequel does not suck. Yes, the original is better, but overall the story fits pretty well. I actually found it very well done how certain scenes in the prequel would recreate the context of some in the original trilogy. The best example, I think, is when Vader orders Luke to be taken to the Emperor. On Endor's Moon, Luke tries to get in touch with Vader's Lightside self before he is taken off. Afterwards, Vader looks away while holding Luke's Lightsaber looking like he is remembering or overthinking the actions he took in the past. I would rank them (from least to best): E1; E2; E6; E3; E5; E4.

EDIT 2: Lastly, don't everybody get their hopes up. George Lucas will still be involved. Apparently he'll stay on as a 'Creative Consultant'.

Objectively, there's a good bit of bad filmmaking going on in 1-3. Have you seen the Red Letter Media reviews? It lays out the problems with the movies in a way that's hard to argue against.

No, but might have to check that out. Additionally, no reviews have every been glaringly positive for SW movies. At least not that I'm aware of.

Start at the start and begin at the beginning

That review is great, I could never put into words why I didn't like the prequels and why I was so bored the whole damn time until Red Letter Media did his legendary review, they nailed it.

I still need to watch episodes 4 to 6. Or 1 to 3. The ones with Child Vader.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

1 to 3 .

4 to 6 are the old ones.

I wish Disney announce the prequels never happened and they are making the real prequels with a real director behind them.

This also means Indy REBOOT!

RLM dissected it in a way that can applied to almost any fiction work with the same results. I tried it once with great success on Game of Thrones, the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire alongside a friend who's a literature major. We exposed the results to the fans... and they weren't happy at all with us. Except for Phantom Menace, whose plotholes are very hard to overlook, most of the criticism directed at Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith could be explained in-universe or are not problems at all and are fallacious e.g. attacking the straw man, appeal to ridicule etc.

Except the romance of course. It's valid to criticize that one. It was completely crap from the beginning and it felt like to me that Padme found Anakin so hot she pretended his failed flirtation had any effect on her. That's my headcanon at least.

Nooooo. New star wars will blow for sure. Leave it alone.

Daum! Did not see that coming.

Will be very interesting to see what happens with the series. Been a huge fan all my life! :D
