I initially wanted to defer you to the Wikipedia article on the illuminati, because that is one of the places where I read that. Unfortunately I read it in the german version and when I just looked up the Illuminati article in the english Wikipedia, I saw that the article in the english Wikipedia is extremely short and doesn't even mention it.
But if you're really interested, let some web service translate the lengthy german article ( http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminatenorden ) - it's a Wikipedia featured article, so it's considered very well investigated. Unfortunately, the translation will probably be very bad and hardly understandable, as a quick test using Google translate that I just did suggests:

Maybe there's a bit of confusion about the word "conspiracy" here that stems from language differences. The strict definition of the german word for "conspiracy" is very generic and simply refers to a secret plan shared by two or more people. Two friends preparing a surprise birthday party for a third friend is a conspiracy for example, according to the true definition. It's just that few people would call that a conspiracy, because most don't know the real meaning and their understanding of the word is based on the phrase "conspiracy theory".

Seems like there was a bit of a misunderstanding. When I said secret societies I didn't mean "societies whose existance is secret", but organizations like the NSA, the CIA, the Mossad and the KGB too. - organizations that have a lot to do with secrets.

I don't fully understand what you're trying to say here. First of all, it sounds like you are under the impression that I actually believe the illuminati are trying to take over the world, which of course I don't.

In the case of organizations like intelligence agencies, I think it's quite easy to understand. In the case of organizations like the freemasons, I'm still wondering, too.
