So much misinformation it is hard to know where to begin.
1. The United States had a major impact on World War 1 even before entering into the conflict militarily. The United States was a major supplier of armaments and material to both the British and the French. The nation also placed a great deal of political pressure on Germany in regards to unrestricted submarine warfare, and finally the entry into the war forced the Germans to go onto the offensive. It is hard to say, but if the United States weren't supplying the combatants, and wasn't placing pressure on Germany. The war could have turned out very differently. After all if the Battle of the Atlantic happened twenty years sooner could the British have held out.
2. Both the British and the French were equally culpable for the failure to hold France. Had neither side been sore winners after the previous war. Then the second probably wouldn't have happened in the first place. Secondly the act of appeasing Germany only served to strengthen Hitler, and weaken any nation that might have made a much bigger contribution later such as Czechoslovakia. Finally fighting the whole phoney war was just pure fucking idiocy, and that isn't a matter of hindsight either. Anyone who isn't by inclination an outright fool. Knows that hitting someone when their back is turned is a fantastic way to be sure of winning a fight.
I am sorry guys but both the British and the French spent months wringing their hands not wanting to actually fight a war they declared, and in doing so frittered away a golden opportunity to actually end the war decisively in their favor. Germany was overextended into Poland a stones throw away from a mobilized Soviet army. Hitler was only in a position to offer up a token defense on the Western front. You really have to call it what it is both groups were full blown chicken shit.
3. Nobody knows what Patton was thinking period end of story. The man was a full blown narcissist. He was just plain capable of doing or saying anything. Patton would say or do things that he thought he was expected to do while at the same time making plans to circumvent his orders. He did so on multiple occasions. The man was a pure bullshit artist. He wasn't particularly good at it, but he would lie to get what he wanted. With was as much attention and glory as he could get.
