The performance of the game seems right on target given the fact that there has been only one GT release this generation. If there isn't another GT game released this generation then the sales of the overall franchise will be substantially down over the previous generations so either it will meet the expectation of franchise sales or it will meet the expectation for individual title release but almost certainly not both.

I'm not sure what you're trying to prove with those numbers. The lowered franchise generation sales don't accurately represent the selling power of the franchise, or the size of the fanbase. It's very dependent upon the number of releases during each generation.

Moreover, I don't think anyone expects (or has expected for many years now) generation sales to be near PS2/Ps1 levels with the knowledge that there would only be one mainline Gran Turismo game. I guess you could go back to the 2006-2008 era where people may have believed that there would be more than one main Gran Turismo. You could say that the expectations of those people won't be fullfilled. That would be completely true, however, most people discarded those expectations many years ago. You are disproving expectations which no one holds claim to and hasn't held claim to in quite a long time.

I guess so. In the end I didn't want to prove that GT5 or GT is doing badly really because that just aint so and it can be shown by any numbers as the game has scaled predictably with the number of Playstations sold. I think the point I can make is that individual game sales potential scales with the number of consoles sold and therefore the radically high Wii sales on various games is mainly a function of overall sales just as the fortune of games like Halo and GT which are marquees of their respective consoles also scale with the number of units. If the PS3 was selling at twice the rate then likely GT5 would also sell at twice the present rate so you could say it is one of the many 'evergreen' franchises we have seen this generation which go like energizer bunnies.

TLDR: I conceed.
