Forums - Gaming - Is ZombiU Wii U's killer app?

"Killer app" might be a bit sensational, but I definitely think that it will do very well in both its sales and for WiiU itself. It seems to be the one game that a lot of non-Nintendo loyalists are clamoring about, especially with the recent upset of Resident Evil 6 abandoning survival horror.

The fact that zombies and survival horror are "in" right now (most notably with the huge success of The Walking Dead TV show) doesn't hurt, either.

Both GREAT points. The decline of Resident Evil might be one of the best things to happen to ZombiU and, by extension, Wii U. And the popularity of media like The Walking Dead will only help. It's the number one show on TV among adults 18-49 (excluding sports). Maybe Nintendo should buy some ad time on AMC during The Walking Dead.

Yes of course. You see all the non Nintendo gamers dying to play it. They will buy a Wii U just to own it.

That's true.  Other than Zelda, I care nothing for most Nintendo exclusives, but I'd like to play ZombieU.  It is literally the only Wii U launch game that makes me want the system (not including "launch window" games).  It looks like a blast, survial horror from last generation done right on a console.

However, I don't think it will be a killer app for gamers who have a PS3/360, but rather a good title that adds to the critical mass of core titles on the Wii U.  Kind of like with the 3DS, it's going to take several quality games to push a lot of people over the edge.  Real, true killer apps are rare things, so that's not an insult at all, it's just not something you usually see with an new IP, especially in a niche genre.

Ports and multi-platform franchises are going to do nothing to lure core gamers who aren't Nintendo inclined already, but if the Wii U keeps adding titles like ZombieU, then I think it's going to be hard to resist down the line.

Check out the multiplayer mode - it looks fun

Indeed.  They advertised the heck out of RE6 during The Walking Dead; Nintendo would be very wise to do the same with ZombiU.

It does look very very good. Survival horror will rise from its grave! (Okay, that might have been a bit overdramatic)

Signature goes here!

Just another zombie game, they are just boring.

Not if your a zombie fanatic like me :))))
