Let's say this. The two most important games for both portables right now.

Soul Sacrifice - will take 14 months minimum after announced to be released.

Monster Hunter 4 - will take 17 months to release after being announced.

I agree there's unannounced games for Vita (would be really strange if if didn't) but they're late to the party, imo. Even God Eater ("Vita's" second biggest game) was announced god knows when before (mid 2011, I think)

They're going to need to be big, and out in 2013 to give Vita a chance at success.

I'm guessing most developers are gonna keep an eye on Vita and see how it does this holiday season before actually wanted to spend time and money on a game that people won't buy due to the low sales. At least that's what I would personally do if I was a developer. They aren't going to make games on a handheld that has such a small player base.

Falcom's going/gone multiplat, so I wouldn't count that chicken quite yet...especially based on sales of the one that came out a few weeks ago.

One thing I would say about upcoming games, though, is that Sony is a bit stuck in terms of what they can do. There's a waiting game to be had for both the west and the east.

I don't know what third party games they've already got on board, but to get more developing they're going to have to prove a point about what sells on Vita in spite of hardware shifted. So for example, use Uncharted: Golden Abyss to show that third-person shooter franchises DO sell on the console (even though it's not fantastic at the moment, it's better than everything else). For example, if I were Sony, I'd use this as an argument to Capcom for bringing Resident Evil to the system (don't mean to cause any flamebait arguments with this, but I'd compare Uncharted on Vita to Resi on 3DS in terms of sales and ask them to make something)

They need to push Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation & Need for Speed: Most Wanted pretty hard in my opinion, so they can prove games like that are going to do better on Vita than they would on 3DS regardless of the total sales of the console. Though, that brings up a whole other issue about console franchises being all that's propping Vita up, but I won't get into that for now.

I really, really hope they've thrown some money at Rockstar to make GTA for the Vita. That's the kind of game that would really help it, and probably bring other third-parties along with it. But aside from that, they could do with just throwing money at some other big-name developers too.

Anyway, the issue in Japan is a whole other thing. They need to kill the PSP and convince those devs to move over to Vita. Whether they can do that, or if they'd just move straight over to 3DS is something I can't answer. I can kind of see the strategy they're going for at the moment - trying to get the games on both systems (i.e. Gundam; Little Battlers; God Eater) but at some point they're just going to have to cut the cord on PSP if they want Vita to succeed.

Though, whether or not they'd actually want to do that since PSP should be pure profit by this point is debatable. They need to do it to make the future of Vita safer, but they don't have to do it from a monetary perspective.

Do you have a source for that?  I know they've expanded onto Steam, and I could believe that they're developing for 3DS too, but it's the first I've heard of it.

@ Bold, what was wrong with the sales?  It actually did better than a similar game on the PSP (Oath in Felghana was a remake of 3 for the PSP; Foliage Ocean in Celceta was a 'remake' of 4 for the Vita (though slightly different, new story)):
