It's called paranoia. There are far more Sony doom articles. They've been going strong since 2006. I think the few Nintendo related articles can be ascribed to the fact Nintendo posted its first loss since forever recently, so that probably got the ball rolling.

Sony doom articles started when...Sony started to screw up. The PS3 started off as a disaster, they had financial troubles in the company, the Vita is currently doing badly. People jumped on that.

Meanwhile, even when Nintendo was having great success with Wii, they were consistently proclaimed to be doomed.

Things seem to have shifted to Sony now because of Vita and MS, as usual, remains immune to The Doom.

Nintendo screwed up as well and that is when the articles about their doom hit overdrive.

The Wii and DS years were the some of the best years in Nintendo history. They were raking in enough money to use as toilet paper. That's some screw up.

The Wii and DS years are still ongoing. Add their sudden demise to the lackluster 3DS sales in the beginning and you get a recipe for doom.

Oh and doom articles are written more frequently around a new console's launch too. Expect the same for PS4. Nobody in the media seems to hate Microsoft enough to write some original doom-spin articles about them.

None of this goes against what I said about Nintendo consistently being procalimed doom even when they are doing extremely well.

In terms of being doomed - Nintendo > Sony > MS.

Sony is doomed and should leave the gaming business is the new hype train everyone's jumping on these days.

Nintendo was doomed to serve the core gamer. But business wise they have never been more successful.

Didn't you hear? Their plan wasn't to serve the core gamer.

Now their plan is to serve the core gamer.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

Curiously, no one has ever written an article on how MS is doomed and should leave the gaming industry.

When your parent company rakes in $5 billion profit every 3 months, you tend to get confident they wont easily drop their media hub (Xbox) without pumping some serious cash into it.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Have you seen Sony related news lately?

There's more Sony doom than Nintendo doom these days.

I think he is more thinking along the lines of when a new console is introduced it goes like this.

Wii U, Wii, 3DS or any system - OMG its going to fail misserably and nintendo is doomed and they won't sell any hardware

Vita, PS3, PS4 - Best system ever, best bang for buck, amazing, will sell boat loads, ect.

360, 720 - Will be amazing and sell a shit ton (not in japan)

The number of articles or analysts that predict that Sony and Microsofts new systems will do great versus Nintendo is just so overwhelming.  Hell when Nintendo does good, its taken as a fad and soon they will realize the better product and/or upgrade to it.  When Sony/Microsoft do bad its "soon the nintendo people will upgrade to this device"

Nintendo is always talked about in a glass half empty fashion, while sony/microsoft is talked about in a glass half full attitude.

Nintendo doom around PSP launch was way (but miles away) worse than now.

In one side they had the dead Gamecube (probably the last Nintendo console) and at the other they had the soon to be dead gimmicky DS (PSP was going to be the next PS2.)

Nintendo going third party and becoming the next Sega at that time almost was not considered dooming/trolling. And that fueled a lot by sony's arrogant PR - they are now 98% more humble and don't stir that fight anymore - for obvious reasons.

So in a way, Nintendo doom won't ever stop, but it's not at its all time high by a long shot.

For those who wanted to know, I looked at all the annual reports of Nintendo since the release of Wii and the total profits derived from the 7th gen since '06 is 8.5 Billion US $ o_O

Glad I'm not seeing that many doomed articles about Nintendo....but now we have the Sony doomed articles which also annoys me.

Nintendo and PC gamer

8.5 billion? That is awesome! That is almost 1.5x of Microsoft's quarterly profits! Unbelievable!
