Ok, so I have about 470 some odd dollars of amazon gift card saved up on my account. Bought some books, a new watch, and still has this much left. I am thinking about getting the Vita for this Xmas, so I can play at night when I am on call and the hospital is quiet.

So if i get it around the end of this year (Black friday or so); i am expecting some sort of bundle or discount.

What games would you guys recommend, I am thinking:

1. LBP Vita (it's a game within a game, hopefully user generated content can help fill in time gaps of new release)

2. Gravity Rush (Heard good things and apperantely sold enough for them to THINK about making a second one)

3. Uncharted GA (still on the fence, may get a used copy)

4. Rayman Origin (looks like it can be fun, may get a used copy)

5. Soul Sacrifice (when it comes)

6. Persona

If you want a excellent portable then get the Vita. The quality of the build is next to none. The 3ds XL looks cheap and plastic compared to it.

There are a huge amount of games available for it right now. A gigantic selection of PSN and PSP games with the new edition of playstation mobile means you will never be stook for amazing games to play.

Assasins Creed liberation looks amazing too. I agree with guys on this, the Ps Vita is the cool thing to hate right now.

You never lose an oportunity to take a jab at the 3DS. Never.

Have you tried the 3ds XL yet? I have and I prefere my 3ds. Better build quality except the screen is obviously better on the 3ds Xl.

I have both versions of the 3DS. I like the built of the XL more. I think the only advantage the 3DS XL screen has over the original 3DS is the size. I don't know but it looks to me that the XL screen has little yellow tone. I got the XL because the original gave me a terrible pain in my hands.

This is also a problem with the 3ds, sometimes it gives cramps. If you have used the Ps Vita before you can clearly see which console has the better build quality.

I agree with you that the Vita has a better quality build that the 3DS. I thinks thats irrefutable. What I did not understand was what the 3DS build had to do with the OP. Its clear that he wants to buy a PSV. He is not deciding between the 3DS and the PSV.

I wouldn't. Yes you might get the system on a sale during Black Friday, but it's still a first gen Sony system, and I've never had a good experience with first gen systems which aren't Nintendo.

That and games like Gravity Rush and Uncharted are still $40-$50 new, plus their really isn't much more then a handful of games.

Wait until the first redesign comes out, it will be thinner (like the PSP redesign was 1000 -> 2000), have a better battery, and by then there will be more games. You could also pick up Gravity Rush and Uncharted for less then.

That is funny because I have never had trouble with any of Sony's first gen systems and I have all the 1st gen systems. They are still working beautifully too.

You should buy the first gen Sony systems if anything, they have generally better materials ( but higher power consumption).  If you are buying a Microsoft system though I'd say be careful.

Didnt Sony say they werent gonna price cut until next year?

But id wait to see how Assassins Creed and COD fare review wise

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I'd get a nexus 7 instead. Way better for the money you spend. I'd hold off on getting a Vita for now. The memory card expense is ridiculous right now and a 4gb will get you nowhere. The 8,16 and 32gb are still expensive as hell. And Vita games aren't small either. But if you do get it buy hot shots golf. Very addictive game even if you don't like golf. And mortal kombat. Its dirt cheap now. Unit 13 has alot of content too for the price.

No, it's not. Like others said, wait for the price drop in early 2013. Until then, there must be new AAA games, so it will be a much better buy.

We need moar Zelda, now!

We need moar Unchartedzz!

We need less DLCs.

6. Persona

  • You can buy LBP for PS3 for cheap now. (its not the same but close enough and as said is alot cheaper)
  • Gravity Rush is the only game on Vita that seems to be really awesome.(right now)
  • Uncharted on Vita is the worst Uncharted game that exists  so this should not be the reason why one should buy a vita.
  • Rayman Origins also exists on PC 360 PS3 and looks better there and is cheaper.
  • Soul Sacrifice  as you said when it comes. So you could have not mentioned it at all because it has nothing to do with the term NOW.
  • Persona is also available on PS2 for cheap. And can be played on PC in HD with an emulator. (not the same but again close enough)

(I know you cant take your PS2 or PS3 with you but think about it  will you play a role playing game in a hospital? This is more something for games like tetris etc games that consume less time)

So I dont think now is not the time to buy a vita.
The time to buy a Vita is when the price dropped and a ton of games are out.  Lets say the vita will flop and not alot of games will come out  you wasted alot of money.  Sure if noone buys the Vita because it is still struggling it will automatically kill it but its up to you if you want to risk "losing" money or not. If you buy one go and buy a used one its cheaper.

I would wait for a price drop but again its up to you  just ask yourself if you really need one NOW. Or if you can wait  and if the answer is  I CAN WAIT then you know its not the time to buy one right now. Dont just buy stuff because you want to buy stuff.

I bolded his reason he's thinking of a Vita. So all your its cheaper on console arguments hold no water.

Now for games...hmmmm... psp games + psone classics + minis + psmobile + vita games + psn games = tons and tons  of games that can be played on the Vita...there goes your other argument.

or maybe he could just by a 3Ds and play a bunch of shovelware... yeah.. thats a better choice.

Moderated,

-Mr Khan

Good to know you cant read my friend. Who said he should buy a 3ds? You feel hurt by what I said and defend for no reason other than misinterpretation and because someone said something not positive about the vita.

About the cheaper thing etc.  guess why I said sure you cant take a PS2 or PS3 into a hospital etc? Being in a hospital and waiting for work  is nothing you can do while playing RPGs where you cant just quit when you are needed etc.  Thats why I was talking about  games that consume less time like mobile phone games. (Seriously Tetris is no nintendo exclusive I thought people would know this by now... )

And buying a 200+  or a 100  or even 50 dollar console just to play games while you wait for work is not the best idea because you miss out on the  games that stand out the most. Games that can be played in small game sessions dont require you to buy a new system.

So this defeats the purpose of the vita or 3ds or whatever in this specific case.  I mean if he has a PSP DS he should take those and some puzzler or whatever or just use his phone   and not buy a 3ds or Vita solely for playing the handheld at work where he cant really concentrate on the games and needs to stop playing those when he is needed.

It just proves my point that buying the Vita just for this reason alone is actually unnecessary and thats why its not time to buy a vita.

1. Buying LBP2 on PS3 instead of LBP Vita because it is cheaper makes just as much sense as buying Portal instead of Portal 2 because it is cheaper. LBP Vita is in essence a sequel to LBP2, not a port with touch tacked on.

2. It is awesome.

3. No, just no. I have no idea if you've played it or even like the Uncharted series but most people consider it better than Uncharted 1. The game is absolutely great.

4. Eh, agreed.

5. Of course coming soon games matter. Do people buy systems at launch because the few day one titles are enough to last a generation? This is no different.

6. I'm not into Persona so I don't know.

Price drop. This argument is horrible! Of course the VIta will be cheaper next year, or will it? People suspect a $50 cut bringing it down to $200. No way would Sony bundle it at that price so we can expect a $200 system. The Ass Creed bundle is $250 with a $40 game and a $20 memory card. That leaves $190 left for the vita itself. If you find a bundle with a game you want, it would be cheaper to buy it now than in 5 months after a price cut. Factor in the added months of playtime and the decision is obvious.

As for xwan, you can always return it if you don't like it.

Its more like buying News Super Mario Bros U when there is already  the DS WII and 3DS versions. LBP has another problem which is the small install base so the best thing about the game which is its user generated content will dissappoint compared to the PS3 version.

Yup awesome.

If by most people you and some of your friends okay. But I dont like the Vita version some of my friends also dont like it and all the reviewers seem to be the same opinion. Uncharted on Vita has a metascore of 80 while the second worst uncharted which is part 1 (and this isnt a great game at all) gets 88 percent. So I dunno where your MOST people comes from. Btw I have all Uncharted games but I sold the Vita and U:GA because I will wait for a price drop and more games to buy it again. I kept Gravity Rush tho.

Yup

Coming "soon" games dont really matter when the conversation is about if its finally the time to buy a Vita. Especially when we talk about SoulSacrifice which doesnt even have a real release date yet.

I even said "buy a used one if you really want one". A friend of mine bought a Vita in mint condition for ~150 dollars with a memory card and headphones whatnot but then buying a used one next year will be even better for your wallet.
It all comes down to  "does he need one"  "is the console really what he should buy when he is planing on occasionally playing while at work" etc.
I mean if he really wants it and loves it he could buy 10 Vitas I dont mind its not my money. But I just honestly replied to what he was talking about and in my opinion buying a Vita right now just for what he wants to do with it is not a good idea.

just a word... NO but if you are a sony fan and want to have it, buy it, rigth now is a dead system and looks like things for it just get worst and worst.

Because there's people out there that want nothing better than to see something fall. They wont be happy till they see something burn, First it was Xbox, then ps3 and then 3DS and now the vita. UP next, WiiU! DOOMED video games are DOOMED!

There's also people that just look at things i a more realisitcally and dont just belive thigs will get better without any signals that it will.

I agree with you in that there's nothing wrong with looking at things realistically and being 'glass is half empty' about the system rather than 'glass is half full'.

There is also a time and a place for it.  We've had countless Vita is doomed / We need to talk about Vita's sales / <article about Vita> posts on these forums over the past months - I am sure there will be more soon.  There is plenty of room to discuss that viewpoint in there.

In a thread like this - where the OP is thinking about getting the system and is asking what games would be recommended; it's a real stretch for this argument to have any relevance here beyond the fact that people seem to like telling others 'Vita is doomed!'

A passing mention of the fact that the system isn't selling too well & that support may be slow over the next year possibly - which someone already covered on the first page.  Anything more that that is just un-necessary at this point, since he's asking for game recommendations.

And @ the OP, to make sure I stay on topic, I would recommend WipEout 2048.  It's another incredibly enjoyable entry in the franchise (at least what I've played of it was fantastic).
