I mean, I hold both of those economic views as far as third world countries go.
Third world countries should protect the hell out of the few industries they have until they grow diverse enough in their economy to weather through if a big nation does it better.
See Jamacia as a cautionary tale. They did two main big things. Chicken and Fruit.... United Fruit company destroyed their fruit market, and then American's had such a demand for white meat, they're chicken industry got destroyed as tons of low price dark meat flooded their markets.
