Yep Halo series is overtracked and it has been known for quiete a while.

Not if you read the posts in this thread: Without the physical map pack sales included, the Halo series actually has sold just above 43 million units. Add digital sales and 43 million is arguably less than actual sales.

MS 43 million figure include everthing Halo and digital sales. So overall retail sales must be below 43 m, around about 40 million at best.

VGC doesn't track digital sales.

The 43.68m trackes just retail about these games:

  • Halo: Combat Evolved
  • Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
  • Halo 2
  • Halo 3
  • Halo 3: ODST
  • Halo: Reach

Overtracked in any way.

Yeah, "overtracked" was the wrong word. Fixed now.

GameYearGlobal
Halo 3 2007 11.59
Halo: Reach 2010 9.16
Halo 2 2004 8.49
Halo: Combat Evolved 2001 6.43
Halo 3: ODST 2009 6.07
Halo Wars 2009 2.17
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary 2011 1.94
   TOTAL VGC Sold   45.85
   Microsoft Shipped   ~43.00

Even without Digital sales, we still have Halo at 45.85m. So the series is definitely overtracked. Sales total should be in the 42m range somewhere. And that's a best-case scenario, assuming they haven't counted digital sales.

What installment do you guys think is overtracked?

Are they not counting Halo Wars?

Maybe it's just me but I'm not understanding the argument here.  Regardless of what anybody says on this site Halo has sold 43 million at least wether thats just retail or digital we know for a fact it's sold 43 million which is BIG numbers.  No argument needed.  Let's count all the other franchises that's sold this much in the last decade

I think they didnt include Halo CEA. Would put it in line with 43. The PR guy maybe didnt have up to date information. We can speculate forever on this.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

MS isnt counting something.

We pretty much know exactly what Halo 1-3 sold through various NPDs and MS comments. Reach is not overtracked by millions of units.

These figures do not include digital sales as Reach was bundled digitally over 1 million times last holiday.

So basically all you people arguing the answer is simply we dont know what the 43 million is. Sony fans are teying to attack the number to make themselves feel better and MS fans are getting defensive. The fact of the matter is that really again we have no idea what its sold. Though I will say this is now the 2nd time that MS has released numbers that make the physical copy of Reach look overtracked so that may be a part of it.

But we have it at 45 million.
