The PS3 outputs brighter image than the 360, adjust the settings on you're set will make them look the same. Keep in mind that there is no way to adjust brightness on the capture card.

HDMI 1.3 added optional support for some very high bit output - however this will not make any sort of difference for games and is not readily supported by current HD sets.

i would think Joels hurt.
i know he frequents GT and also has a lot of posts there too.
now he knows that GT has been making very lousy comparison videos that could possibly prove their bias or just incompetent.

its like trusting VGchartz with their numbers, then suddenly finding proof that VG has been lying about their numbers.

I actually tested this the other day and the GT video is spot-on... There's a difference but it's not a big one. The blacks are a little richer and the colors a little more vibrant.


did you use the same calibrations on your TV on limited and full?

I only switched RGB to full when I moved over to HDMI and I tested the R&C demo and Motorstorm. That was the only change I made.

If I get motivated, I'll do a check with Folklore though I expect the results to be pretty much the same all around.

See, I don't think they're either. Up until now, they probably didn't even have access to a test PS3 (the only way to capture HDMI) and most likely went out and procured/borrowed one because of fanboy uproar over the washed out comparison videos.

Again, some of you don't seem to realize that the 360 will show an improvement using that kind of setup, too.

And it's not that big of a deal in the first place.

when i changed RGB to full i notice that scenes either get too bright or too dark on my display.
tried playing the iron man trailer that looked perfect on RGB Limited, on RGB full
and it looked way too dark, stark's blackish/grey clothes and hair banded with the black background.
and dont get me started on the cave scene..... and i have my sets brightness set to 50....
tried it on unreal tournament 3, and I cant even make out the insides of the flack cannon anymore, it just looks black. so yeah i notice a very big difference, a difference that i dont see in GT's comparison.

oh and yeah, my set is compatible with RGB full.

So you're saying that a GT comparison video discredits the argument that GT comparison videos lack credibility?

Do I really need to point out the irony of that?

I don't own a PS3, but having played on several, I can safely say that I have never seen one that looked as washed out as those seen in GT comparison videos. Can you honestly say that you have?

That is the sole reason I have for doubting the credibility of GT comparison videos, and given the recent Gamespot debacle, is it any wonder that conspiracy theories abound? 

Also, as an Xbox fanboy, it probably wasn't that wise of you to link to a video of a PS3 exclusive that is probably the best looking game on any console right now. Incidentally, why doyou think they used U:DF instead of comparing a multiplatform title?

Ah you were getting that from sieanr. Well I don't know where the confusion is coming from but I can adjust brightness and contrast. It's quite limited compared to actual TVs and whatnot but it does the job and like I said my card is old and pretty pathetic. I'd assume newer cards would have better features but i'm not really knowledgable on the subject.  I'm just speaking from my own experience with my card.
