The guy obviously doesn't realize that there is a pretty reasonable example in the PSPGo.
Even die hard Sony fans thought that was a pretty bad idea at the time and that was on a handheld, where game sizes are not overly huge. For a regular console, well...think of it this way, games are constantly growing in size and what not. The PS3 uses pretty standard sized Blu-Ray discs if I recall correctly. 26 gb or something like that.
Consider now that they not only have dual-layer BRDs (50 gb), but in June 2010, they worked through an even larger type (that will not be compatible with past BR drives, but can be used with newer ones) that will increase disc storage to 100 gb or more. Considering the constantly growing size of games, 100 gb probably isn't going to seem like a lot when we get into the next gen.
Now imagine downloading a 100 gb game on current connection speeds...
I'm not even sure next next-gen would sacrifice the ease of such massive storage on disc for the 'convenience' of all digital.
