I don't agree with the part you were talking about "the rules", but I do think he overplayed the "pezus".

Under the context of "are we going to play the let's see who didn't notice that pezus wasn't playing game again", his first response was "oh, this has happened before"?

This statement is showing that he was letting us know that he knew pezus hadn't been playing. Whether he knew or not, in this post he verbally made it plain to us that he did.

Then he makes a joke about pezus not being here by pretending he is.

Then, after rebuttal from spry, he says he knew.

It doesn't point to him being mafia, but I believe that is what he did. He either engaged in overplaying it willfully (as fun), or to make himself seem town.
