Forums - Gaming - Connect old PAL consoles to projector via "RGB-SCART>COMPONENT>VGA"? or RGB-SCART> VGA?

Hey guys.

I wonder if it would be possible to  hook up my old consoles  to my projector.

My projector has:

  • HDMI
  • VGA
  • composite
  • and some strange headphone jack ( audio and video at the same time.)

Most of my old consoles like Gamecube, Ps1, Snes, PS2 etc  have a Scart RGB cable (all are PAL region consoles)  (I refuse to use ugly composite)

Before I had my AVR I wanted to try if I can hook up my Wii to the projector  so I bought a component to VGA adapter  and IT WORKED! (even tho everything I read about it on several forums said it wouldn't work)

Would a RGB-SCART to COMPONENT adapter work? (its cheaper than the SCART to VGA  and I also have a component to VGA adapter so i would save some money)

if not

Would RGB-SCART to VGA work?

Did the component to VGA thing work because vga and component are basically the same?  But RGB scart is different?

Thank you very much

Around the Network

You can get SCART to HDMI converters for around $70. Its the prefered way that people play on old systems now a days.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

That strange headphone jack is probably svhs.

If it's cheap try scart to component first, I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Also check if your amp has any upscale capabilities.

There are no guarantees though, I had a big problem connecting a dreamcast to my old CRT projector. The connections should all work but the projector refused all input from the dreamcast. The only thing that worked in the end was feeding the dreamcast's svhs signal into my pc which upscaled it to 800x600 and back out over svhs to the projector.
