Forums - Sony - What game should I get a PS3 for?

I want a PS3.  I mean I really want one.  The problem is I just can't figure out why I want one other than the fact I would own all three consoles.

So I want your help.  I want to know which game (or small group of games) that is out or announced for the PS3 exclusively would be worth getting a PS3 for, taking into account my tastes:

Fan of many WRPG's like Fable, Mass Effect, Jade Empire (couldn't get into Oblivion).

Fan of tight shooters (play them for single player and local co-op only, I'm not big on online at all)

Adore Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy, loathed Super Paper Mario.

Haven't played MGS, but I dislike Splinter Cell.

I have never played Final Fantasy (or any non-zelda JRPG), and so I am unaware whether I will enjoy such titles (I may figure this out if I get Lost Odyssey when Australia gets it BEFORE THE USA next month).

I play the occasional racer (have never played GT) but enjoy a more arcade-y feel.  Did not like Forza 2.

Im told that FFXIII is more action-based, but am unsure what this means exactly. Looks interesting though.

Bearing in mind that I could get between 7-10 full priced games for my other two consoles for the price of a PS3 (with a 2nd controller etc), which games do u think have come or will come out for the PS3 that would justify my purchasing the console.

Well a great game that is out at the moment has to be Uncharted, it is just an amazing game :D

As for the future the best course of action is to go to gaming websites and look up the upcoming game lists and see what you would want to purchase for the PS3!

I guess if you have the expendable income then you might as well buy one. I own an XBox 360 and Wii as well, but nothing Sony has or will have is worth the price tag.

If you dont like Splinter Cell then you probably wont like MGS.  I like Splinter Cell but I couldnt force myself to finish MGS 2.

America = Best Gaming Console

Europe = Best Game Developers

It seems the obvious choices are Ranchet and Uncharted.

'nothing Sony has or will have is worth the price tag' - such a fanboy thing to say!

I got my PS3 on launch, now have 9 games for it, which i would well think justified the price of it (and since i'm in the UK and payed more than you Yanks for the console i think thats all well and good)

Not when you already own the other two consoles that are out there, both of which happen to be better and cheaper.

Yeah, I definitely agree with Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted. I own both, so I can vouch for them from personal experience.

Unreal Tournament 3 might not be a bad idea either if you like those kind of games.

 Troll much? Seriously go back to your hole.  I had the opposite experience with the MGS and Splinter Cell series.  Hated the latter and loved the former.

@Manus

Better is by matter of opinion, not fact! Cheaper, yes, but that shows with the 360 anyway (33% failure rate anyone?)

If you can completely dismiss any PS3 games being worth the purchase of one then you must be very foolish... or have no taste! Either or :P

As much as they get compared MGS and SC are very different games so just because you dislike SC doesn't mean you won't like MGS.  SC seems more realistic in the stealth department where you actually stick to the shadows and once the alarms go off the guards start roaming in packs and put on helmets and riot gear if enough alarms go off and keep hunting you for quite a bit.  MGS is a little more forgiving where you just need to lay low for a bit like 30 seconds or so (just an estimate, it's been a while since I last played) and the alarm will go off.  You just go hide in a closet or under a cardboard box you carry around.  MGS also has a more gamelike atmosphere with your predictable boss fights and whatnot whereas SC keeps it to just killing random guys or aborting nuke launches so it seems more realistic and closer to a spy novel than a video game.

Basically ask yourself why you disliked SC?  MGS is a great series so you should at least give it a try to see if you will like it.  Since you said you are going after owning all 3 consoles I will assume you have a Wii.  Track down MGS: Twin Snakes on GC as it's a remake of the original MGS.  MGS2 was on Xbox but IIRC it's not BC with the 360 so you'd have to play it on a PS2 or Xbox original.

Keep in mind I didn't play SC: double agent all the way through and I never played MGS3 so any changes made in those more recent games won't have been reflected in my writeup above.
