Forums - Gaming - Is the Vita truely dead?

I would agree with killing the vita off if the sales didnt pick up in the future, but i think its still too early to say that the sales will never pick up and to kill it off at this point. I simply think that it would create a lot of bad press for sony, that after couple of years they cant afford. However unfortunately i dont know enough about sonys financials to be able to give a valid opinion of whether sony are better off cutting their losses to save money immediately or if there is money to be made realistically in the future.

Sony's financials are really bad:  http://www.theaustralian.com.au/australian-it/tech-giant-sony-reports-300m-quarterly-loss/story-e6frgakx-1226441935337

they've been on a loss for about 4-5 years straight now.

TGS will tell...

Wasn't Gamescom a big enough bang? Cross Buy, Killzone, Tearaway, CoD bundle - you think they're not out of announcements after E3 and that?

The CoD bundle there is the one to watch, otherwise its nothing too different than many Sony initiatives which, in the past, haven't been especially effective.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

They didn't do a price cut for memory card nor for the system and didn't drop their big games so how can it be dead for now when this 3 thing happen and sale dosn't approove then it will be dead.

They can't do those unless they cut funding for PS4 (I'd rather not have them do that) since the PSV is unprofitable for another 2 years.

agreed I don't think it'll help them sell their 8-9 million goal by this holiday.  I expect them to announce a revision seeing that they only sold/shipped 2.2M units worldwide and many of those are still on shelves at target, bestbuy, and walmart. If they haven't sold 6 mil units in 9 months, they sure won't in this upcoming 3 months; that's for sure.

Short of releasing Super Mario Bros., there isn't a lot Sony can do. What form would a  game-changing announcement for the West take? (Obviously  for Japan it would be MH4 having Vita as premier or exclusive platform)

I'm sure they can but not now.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

That's what I was saying. I agree with superchunk that sony ditch the system and re-release it as a smartphone.  Thus current PSV owner can still purchase DL titles and it wouldn't be as bad. C'mon there is only like 2 mil of them out there.

By the time it gets a price-cut, it'll be for clearance purposes I'm afraid.

if it become a smartphone it will be a much more failure then psvita the handheld

at least wait until January 2013 after the christmas season is over before trying to say the vita is dead
