Forums - Sony - Sony close Studio Liverpool

Been on the cards for a while, since the merger with Evolution and the lay offs a couple of years ago.

But they did announce that they were working on a new AAA PS3/Vita game quite recently.

Sad news for the guys that work there.

Meanwhile studios that havent produced a game in 5 7 years carry on regardless.

What merger?

This is really so bad for Sony, I don't think this will help gaining the trust of Third-Party developers.. The sales of the vita til the year-end are going to be crucial for Sony Playstation.

Jan 2009:

Evolution and Sony Liverpool studios merging, combining resources

From the "Did you know?" department comes an interesting tidbit regarding Sony's internal development studios -- specifically, the two behind last year's Wipeout HD (Liverpool Studio) and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift (Evolution Studios). According to veep of Worldwide Studios Europe, Michael Denny, it is Sony's intention to fully merge the teams, which already share a management structure and resources, in a single geographic location.

"Each studio has its own internal concepting group which will always be looking at new opportunities and new IPs," Denny told GI.biz, "and we'll continue to extend and innovate within our existing franchises as well." The move won't happen "overnight," but the synergy that would result is sure to be beneficial to off- and hovering-slightly-above-road racing fans. We only hope that the two studios don't fall into the same trap Team Joystiq does whenever united under one roof: hours upon hours wasted looking at funny cat videos.

I read on Gaf that they don't share the same building, not even the same city, I dont think they merged.

Very sad news to see Psygnosis gone. I enjoyed quite a few of their games (I wonder how many hours I wasted invested playing Lemmings).

And who will make the new Wipeout games? I doubt they will be the same in the hands of other developers.

Oh, well. Best luck for them, let's hope they find home in another studio soon.

Sad news he? Sony is losing some major developers and i dont see them buying/creating new ones anytime soon so im somewhat worried.

Found this on NeoGAF. Apparently Liverpool was working on 2 PS4 titles.

Hmmmm... A reliable source you say?

Odd choice, what will happen with wipout?

So much sad news this week: Nintendo Power ceased, Popcap layoffs, Psygnosis closing it's doors...sad news indeed in the gaming industry. I hope when a door is closed, a new door will open, and I hope Sony and the rest of the gaming industry finds new doors to begin with.

well, hope they land on their feet.

Who the hell was telling me that the gaming business won't be affected from the financial crysis Sony is in?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
