I bought an Xbox for a total stranger. Explain to me how I had absolutely no control over my actions.

Don't be a dick. No one claims to be able to explain everything. Still... Where could I not explain my own decisions?

@d21lewis_ You know best how you resonated. But my guess would be that you wanted an Xbox for a cheap price and thought that the odds of being scammed was very low. You didn't know for sure that you would get it, but you did expect profit.

Well, your only excuse was that you copied my word order. In my next reply I removed that possibility, and I didn't get an answer.

If there is another factor that allow us to choose a different option than the "best" one, then your theory fails.

So your theory needs to expain every decision, because if it can't do so... it works only when it does? that sounds kinda crappy.

There's a difference between not being able to respond to your comment and ignoring it. I thought it was silly, which is why I let it be.

Whenever I decide to write a specific word before another one I don't do it on purpose (except special occasions, of course, where it's important to write a certain word before another), I simply write them as they come to mind, just like pretty much everybody else.

But you can change them whenever you want, if they didn't come to mind in the "best" order, before submitting. Heck, you can still edit them.

And how about wasting extra energy finding an alternate word for James, something that goes completely against your ideas?

You had the word James in front of you yet you replaced it.

I didn't buy it from a stranger.  I bought it FOR a stranger.  Some random dude said his Xbox was broken so I bought him one.  I'm not a rich person and I could have saved the money to buy a 3DS XL or something.  My girlfriend quit her job a little earlier and my daughter has doctor's appointments almost weekly.  I could have put the money towards something of that nature.  The guy didn't ask for an Xbox.   I'd never met/spoken to him before and hadn't spoken to him since.  In fact, it was just a random user on this site.  I don't know anything about the guy.  No age, political preference, race, favorite color, or anything.  I'm not the kind of person that give 50 cent a day to starving kids in Africa, either.  I wasn't "high on smack" or anything.  His story wasn't heartwarming or heartbreaking.

I didn't expect any profit of any kind.  I didn't profit in any way, shape, or form.  I don't have any regret for my action.  It was just a totally random act of kindness for a totally random person in a totally random thread.  I'm not prone to these kinds of actions.  Being scammed didn't even cross my mind.  Were it not for this thread, I'd never have mentioned the incident ever again.  Personal glory was no motive. I've barely given that moment a second thought since it happened.  I wasn't held at gunpoint or coerced in any way whatsoever.  I'd seen threads like that before and never felt like doing such a thing.  I may never do such a thing again.....but then again, maybe I will.  It depends on my "Free Will".  This entire incident took place before this thread so it wasn't in a reaction to anything and it wasn't to prove a point.

Explain or tell me that I just invalidated your entire thread.  Free will IS free.

I actually assumed that you misspelled "from", my bad.

Twist it however you want. You say you didn't receive any profit but you did. That act made you feel good about yourself, and rightfully so, because you took a risk and you won.

...unless you regret your action deep inside, but I don't think you do. Even if you do though, you thought it was the right thing to do at the time. Because you are a good person.

That's actually pretty debateable....... Sometimes, I have the heart of a supervillain.

I don't think it made me feel good or bad.  I was just browsing the site and said, "Hmmm.....I guess I could help that guy out.  It probably won't kill me."  At no point did I sit there and revel in the good deededness of my actions.  In all honesty, I don't think I did it to gain anything and there was no expectations that I could ever gain anything.  If anything, I was afraid of what would happen if my GF found out that I spent a fairly decent amount of change on something that didn't benefit our household in any way whatsoever.

I won't twist it or anything.  I just know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was something done entirely at random because I was in a position to do so and thus, I did it.  I believe there is such a thing as will that is free.

Peace, dude.

I tend to enjoy your opinion. What do you think of what I said here? It may not necessarily deal with free will. But I do think it covers how much control people have over their personality/behavior.
