Forums - General - Atari does not consider Wii Next Gen?

ps3, xbox360 and wii are not next gen, they are current gen

Around the Network

There are several "who cares" about this.

First, it is another Dragon Ball Z game. They don't sell like they once did.
Second, it is Infogrames (Atari) -- which has become irrelevant and is on the verge of being non-existent.
Third, there is much greater graphical consistency between the 360 and the PS3 which lead to them being lumped together. That's all.
(Ironically, those same developers often lump the Wii and the PS2 -- even though Wii>GC>PS2).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Afcours it isn't next-gen, just as the PS3 and 360 aren't. I really hope they ditch that title. It's current gen now stop using this term.

Isn't Atari close to death at this point?

You'd think they'd be doing like Majesco and putting all their dev on Wii and DS

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Saying the Wii isn't next gen from the quoted piece from Atari, is like saying the 360 is better then the PS3 since they listed it first. It trying to put your personal spin to bash another system.

As far as the wii not being next gen, sorry it is next gen. No not graphically, but controls have always been part of improving from previous generations. Controls have changed every generation except the last one. You have crosshairs of the nes, shoulder buttons of the snes, and rumble and anolog sticks being added to the standard controllers of the time.

Atari is the worst company EVER when it comes to business decisions. Not even Saturn-era SEGA can come close to matching Atari. Plus, they are almost bankrupt anyway. Let's take a look at what PROVES they are stupid.
1. Passing on the chance to release the NES in America
2. Atari Jaguar
3. Bad games in general, that suck so much no one buys them
4. Atari 5200
and of course:
5. THAT GODDAM ET, which caused the video game crash
Honestly, it's like they are TRYING to destroy their company. What they should be doing is making games for Wii and DS. That is their only chance. They'd probably still fail, but it would take longer. At this point, they are essentially dead, and no "Final Fantasy" can save them. All because things like this happen constantly.

Atari is so totally right. They revolutionized the industry in the early 80s, produce and publish only top-noch games and are economically brimming. Oh, wait...

Well the Wii is not next-gen, no next-gen hardware, no next-gen specs whatsoever...when Nintendo fans have to constantly defend their console as being "next-gen"...then you KNOW it's not seen by anyone else but yourself, as "next-gen" lol.

And thank god btw, Atari can focus on making this game optimal for PS3, then 360. Even for cell shading it looks smoother and sleeker then the last budokai3. I've been a huge fan of those goofy DBZ:Budokai games, so im really lookin forward to layin back and trainin' up Vegeta for some online play.

Can't wait to see the extraordinary sales of the "next-gen" Dragonballz. If companies like Atari ignore Nintendo, they won't last long.

Who listens to Atari?!?

For the love of pops, Atari is nearing death pretty soon. They shouldn't be opening their small pockets because they were close to losing the Dragon Ball Z license here in America.
