Forums - Sony - Sony Q1 numbers: 24.6 Billion yen loss (314 million dollars), cuts yearly forcasts

It is... but I have no idea where they are selling.  Must be middle east and eastern europe.

MAybe the fact that Sony built an entirely new fab in Brazil for PS2 manufacturing two years ago might give you a clue? Also India (and surroundings) is still PS2 country..

Or PS4 dev costs....

yeah probably partially due to PS4 R&D. I didn't even think of that.

Also CECH-4000 model development, and probably games development.

Fiscal year just started and were seeing lowered forecasts. Not a good sign.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

US$ 24 billion dollar loss ? is that right ?

I'm pretty sure the $45m loss was caused by PSV sales.

I find hard to believe that PS3 is still being sold at loss.

Where does it say that

He is assuming the total loss is $24b US dollars, so he probably thinks PS3 is still being sold at a big time loss.

Misleading titles can have that effect.

The person who wrote the title of this article changed it

It was US$24billion before.

I was just asking if the title was right.

I was asking where the "PS3 still being sold at loss" came from, as that can't be concluded simply from the $45 million Game division loss (which is mostly likely caused by Vita being sold at a loss)

Understood now.

But I said, i don't believe PS3 was the cause of this loss.

And I agree with you.

This $45m has to be caused by PSV poor sales.

No way the PS3 is still being sold at loss.

Or PS4 dev costs....

It's a possibility.

Offtopic.

What are you talking about? :O

The Sony Q1 thread in GAF turned into a discussion about how big the frachise/game is (list war)... so GT is the main debate and I guesses this only happen here in vgchartz but I was wrong .

Just read this in the accounts...

Assumed foreign currency exchange rates: approximately 80 yen to the U.S. dollar and approximately 100 yen to
the euro. (Assumed foreign exchange rates for the current fiscal year at the time of the May forecast:
approximately 80 yen to the U.S. dollar and approximately 105 yen to the euro.)

So they have at least reduced their ridiculous expectaton back in may, BUT... Sony expectation for the currency for the rest of the year (July 1st to march 31st 2013) is:

Yen/Euro 100.

Hmmm??

Its been around 95 and 96 since July 1st.

Is that good or bad for Sony??? Euro is a little weak today.

bad... very bad.

Is that "Yen/Euro 100" their max or min value? What range are they playing?

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Setting themselves up for more excuses? I sure hope not.
There was a lot of purchasing this past quarter. They likely would have turned profit had they remained conservative, but let's hope there actually is a turnaround in there somewhere.

looks like sony may be heading in the right direction. we'll know soon enough.
