Thats funny. Nuking Jupiter. You severly overestimate the firepower of a nuke. A Hydrogen bomb like Tsar would be for Jupiter like a fly landing on your shoes. This disturbance in the gas atmosphere of Jupiter was likely this: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Jupiter_impact_event
Here a quote:
The force of the explosion on Jupiter was thousands of times more powerful than the suspected comet or asteroid that exploded over the Tunguska River Valley in Siberia in June 1908.[2] (This would be over a million times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.)[10]
Also the costs of the mission would be BILLIONS. If one could undertake it a Bomb this big lets just say you would need a whole lot of bombs. I doubt humanity can even lift that much weight into an orbit around Jupiter
And what would be the point. Space is bathed in radiation anyway. Jupiter has a radiation belt that would put a H2 Bomb to shame. Just standing on IO would kill a human in hours despite suite.
Destroying anything in our solarsystem or damaging it requires energy/technology we can't even dream about on this level of development we have. At best we can put a few new craters on the moon and ad a little radiation.
| Mnementh said: Does anyone else seen this? Jupiter is not the least watched planet. It's actually interesting, so I think others should have monitored the planet at the same time. So, as long as I don't see different photographs of others astronomers, I think it is one of the following: a fake, dirt on the telescope or the shadow of one of the moons of Jupiter. |
I found another picture from the same guy with. He took multiple pictures of it. Its not a fake.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
I'm sure Bush linked Al Qaeda, Iraq, and Jupiter... it was only a matter of time before he did.
"We go on to defend freedom from those on Jupiter who would take that away from us. We have the best Americans in the Solar System here in America... We must protect them." Bush, May 2003.
Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.
The Pics are from a guy called Oliver Meeckes and indeed it was a mystery but thats nothing too special. Spots come and go. Shit falls on Jupiter all the time and Humans can't turn a RTG Space Probe into a Bomb its not like any Radioactive Substance has enough decay to trigger a chain reaction. Bombs work with enriched Uranium/Plutonium and you need to pack a certain amount together.and even a full powered Bomb wouldn't make a visible mark on Jupiters "surface" that can be observed through an Amature Telescope.
BTW:Did you check if the guy who made the pics actually wrote the article about "nuking" Jupiter.
Its probably a nutjob using his pics. No rational person would spread a theory that ridiculous.
Eh, I've got to say the entire thing seems unlikely to me. Especially the bit about the explosion suddenly becoming hundreds of thousands of times bigger due to a fusion reaction in Jupiters atmosphere.

I did a little research on this Theory: http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/misc/jupiter_galileo.html
Seems like alot of people want Jupiter to ignite and become a 2nd Sun which wouldn't work anyway. Just google Jupiter ignites and you get claims that it already happened.
Wow, crazy.
And by that I mean you are actually crazy.
So, did they remote detonate it, or did it strike the core that Nasa isn't even sure exists?

about time, them lazy spacemens have it to easy for to long it's time to bring freedom to them

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
Thanks for posting it was an interesting read. I started looking it up on how it could have happen and came across another interesting thing called the Black Knight satellite. Weird stuff if true.
