Forums - General - The Universe (History Channel Series)

Has anyone been watching this series? It's quite interesting. It's quite a bit more useful for me at the moment as I'm taking astronomy right now. I have a really hard professor that has done research with NASA, the Russian Space program and a few others. So having more knowledge about the Universe and how it works will help in discussions.

So anyways, Right now the show is talking about Jupiter and the new episode up next is about Dark Matter.

Awesome. I know I'm young, but my cousin tells me all this cool stuff about the universe. For example (this is really obvious but AWESOME!) If you go far away from Earth (REALLLLLLLLLLLLLY FAR), you will see Earth's past! Why? Well you could only acheive this while going faster than light. You see, light never stops, it just keeps moving. So, going faster than light in a specific direction from Earth will let you SEE the past!!!!! So, if humans harness the speed and power of light, they MIGHT be able to travel at the speed of light (not the humans themselves, but some highly protected spacecraft)

I sometimes watch it if I catch it. I was in an Astronomy class, but I had to drop it because I was a little overbooked. It's sad, I would have loved to take a gander at the telescope we have on campus... but oh well.

Off Topic: What do you guys think about the theory of relativity? (discovered by Albert Einstein) You know, that everything ages realtive to Earth...Do you think we might be actually able to send 1 twin light years away from Earth and keep one on Earth to find that the one in space has hardly aged after 10 years?????????

 1. Scientists are close to actually disprove relativity or cement it into place because they are trying to figure out the whole worm hole thing.

2. wtf is you question. I dont understand

3. did you know theres object that go faster then the speed of light. lol

I've learned so much from this show. lol

Time machines almost created confirmed.

But they will skip the aliens :D

yes going faster then light could possibly let you travel through time but it still has to fold the 4th dimension through the 5th to make the 6st dimension. (string theory ftw!)

lol @ the last part of Soriku's post.

I'm watching The Universe right now. I just clicked on the main webpage on the active threads and saw this one. I love about stuff on the Universe.

In my Pokemon fanfic, I have 2 new signature moves for Dialga (time) and Palkia (space); Dialga has Absolute Zero and Palkia has Black Hole.

I'm a HS science teacher (bio mostly, but teaching General Science in Alt Ed) and just today my set of The Universe DVDs just arrived today ($27 from Amazon). I need to pick through all 16 episodes to find ones that will be good for these kids, as I'll be starting the astronomy unit soon.
