Forums - Microsoft - Update: Halo 2 Anniversary not in Development "At This Time"

i expected this to be honest, it seems microsoft want to make halo an annual thing (and milk the franchise to death as well)

They said a few years back that they want to try and have Halo bring in more frequent returns, rather than just following the old 3-year cycle. So far, they've stuck to that

2009: Halo 3: ODST

2010: Halo: Reach

2011: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

2012: Halo 4

However, as Halo 2 was released in 2004, an Anniversary remake probably wouldn't be released before 2014. That leaves 2013 blank. However, they're sensible and give it a break to avoid the series burning out.

Well... Following my Halo CE Anniversary purchase, I might actually skip this one. Especially if there only is a campaign mode and no re-introduction of its multiplayer. Neither terminals nor visuals are enough to justify buying it thanks to youtube.

Why skip this one? Didn't you like Halo CE Anniversary?

And what do you mean by "thanks to Youtube"?

Well, it's pretty much impossible to dislike Halo CEA, but since I already have the original and can watch the new graphics and terminals on youtube I don't think it's worth the money.

Edit: Whoops, didn't see Zero's post.

2013 is the year of Halo Wars 2 or ODST 2 xD

Out of those two would rather have Halo Wars 2. The first game was good but had so much more potential. Think a while back I wrote a long list of this to change/improve in a potential sequel. Would love the grand, awe-inspiring environments to make the transition into the game, the levels and maps in Halo Wars were so boring.

According to a close-to-development source, 343 Industries has indeed discussed a Halo 2 Anniversary, following the success of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

“It’s been talked about, however I’m not will to say anymore at this time,” said our source. This is the same source that told us last June that “unexplained laps in time” would be used to incorporate Halo Reach elements, which it indeed does.

Previously, in an interview with IGN, Microsoft Games Studios vice president Phil Spencer said that they’re not trying to run a remastering center, but “[they're] not putting [Halo 2 Anniversary] out of bounds.” Before that, he said that they only did the Anniversary Edition because it was the 10th Anniversary, and it “made sense.”

“There are obviously some great Xbox 1 games that would be nice to see, but we’ve focused most of our resources on creating new things. I’m not putting it in or out of bounds right now, though,” said Spencer.

This would be good, since I never played Halo2.

I think before Halo Reach, Halo 2 was the best Halo game.

Disagree.

Not only is Halo CE and 2 better in gameplay than almost all FPS titles today, the anniversary was the most impressive graphical remake Ive ever seen.

Cant wait for a remake of Halo 2.

Just keep the gameplay the same like you did with Halo CE 343.

You use the word milking when a company releases a new game from a franchise in a short amount of time for only getting sales while not spending time about the quality of the game. A good example would be Resistance and the latest installment on VITA. Only released to get resistance fans on an vita while not giving crap about the quality of the game...That is milking..

Halo so far is not an milking franchise, you can't call one game bad...dissapointing is possible though.

I guess Halo 2 anniversary as an launch game for the next box.

Hope though that they come with some new attractive IP's soon though.

I agree, I didn't enjoy halo 2's campaign lol, halo 3's was deff a step up from 2.

I didn't really enjoy the campaign the first time through... One day I was bored and started replaying it on legendary... and i fell in love. It's a much better (though 1000x harder) game on legendary.

Is Halo being milked? Yes. Is Halo still a AAA franchise? Hell yes!

I liked the ending of Halo Reach, but I liked ODST's campaign a lot more.
