Forums - PC - Piracy Makes CoD4 Devs Sad

I'm not a big fan of piratin' PC games. Why? Just because it's not really fair to the dev. However if I know the game is REALLY good, I usually go out and buy it. However if I have reason to beleive it is HORRIBLE, I download it to see if it's any good. If it ROCKs. I usually buy it. I also tend to pirate more games from companies like, EA, Ubi, Microsoft.
Why? Because it dont hurt the devs as much as you would think it does. It hurts the multi-billion $ profit publishers.

Next up. You wanna hear what pirateing is? Theift, right?

That's Blizzard. 2BILLION profit from 1 game.

I'm not gonna go into much detail, but if 99.9% of people pirated that game, and they made 22million. (profit) I would still say that company dosent have much room to complain.

I *never* pirate games from small companies, that publish their own content.

http://eve-online.com (it's a mmo, but I wouldnt pirate it if I could)

I hate companies that make 100x profit off their investment.

Games werent always about the money. They were about FUN. About having fun to PLAY them. Not see how mass market, morally correct, and appeal to 90% of gamers. They used to be FUN. Small, Pointed to a small market. Those were the good days. Today games are about money.

EDIT: halo3 is a good example. The game cost under 50million to make, and made microsoft over 200million.(alot over)

Trackmania's pretty sweet...are the games that cost money that much better? The game frustrated me, but in a good way.

Depends what you are after. United is definitely the best of them all, since it comes with all the type of cars/tracks and the retail one offers modes unavailable in Nations. However, when it comes to multiplayer, I keep returning to Nations for its simplicity.

For the AU$25 I paid for United the week it came out, I definitely have got my monies worth from it.

i know a pirate... dumbest person i've ever met. i'm sure he's a pyro too. of course most of my friends "buy" their movies from him

for the record: I HATE pirates.

The effects of pirating games and software aren't 100% for the worse, no.

But in general, I think we'd be a lot better off without piracy.

And I can understand piracy in countries where the prices are ridiculous...but most pirates I talk to are in the US, Europe, Korea, etc, and there's really no personal excuse to pirate if you live in such a country.

Well if you live at or near the poverty line I could see it.

If you lived below the poverty line, you shouldn't reallybe buying computers capable of running all of the latest games. Gaming shouldn't be your priority.

Pirating isn't just about all the latest games.  You can pirate NES and Gensis games, all sorts of older games, all sorts of older computer games like the Age of Empires series or Civilization 3 etc.

Also, who's job is it to tell people what they "should" be buying?
