Anyway, ill probably watch the show. The VGC community introduced me to one amazing (Game of Thrones) maybe they'll do it again with My Little Pony. Unlike some people here, I can appreciate quality writing regardless off the coat of paint it has. Hopefully some people will mature and reach the same mentality.

So I guess if they write a hardcore porn and it wins an oscar for best picture it should be for everyone?

Everyone, no. Obviously little kids should not watch porn for obvious reasons.

Just using your logic. I should be open minded to anything no matter how it is painted as long as it has quality writing.

I watched 5 minutes of a show and hated it by the way.

The Pixar movie line is neither here or there. Those movies are meant for everyone. MLP not only isnt meant for everyone but has a set gender and set age boundaries.

Hasbro has set age boundaries  in mind, yes. Because they only care about toy sales. The creator of the show has a number of interview stating that her intention was for it to appeal to everyone

What qualities seperate a kids and adult show in your view?

When I watch something like the Big Bang Theory it is incredibly immature with sex references every other line and completely unrealistic depictions of the character's lives and actions.

@d21lewis

I respect that.

This will go nowhere. People like what they like I suppose. But ill still answer your question.

Intended demographics (age and gender), media, and aesthetic is what separates for me.

With Big Bang theory, its very sex references you claim to be immature are still intended for at the very least people in high school. I think sex references shouldnt be intended for children at all. Completely unrealistic depictions? Its a comedy show.....and kinda funny coming from someone who watches a show about talking colorful ponies :P

I guess well leave it at this. agree to disagree.

Ok this now has nothing to do with the age appropriateness or how it looks.

You do NOT compare Game of Thrones with My Little Pony.

I don't think he ever was comparing Game of Thrones to My Little Pony.

He did in regards to them both having quality writing and implied that if GOT was amazing, then its possible that MLP could be equally as amazing.

Regardless.......this is the first time someone EVER put those 2 shows in the same sentence lol. That just isnt done and never should be :P

Of course writing was just one factor in what makes a show quality. There's also character development, pacing, timing, etc. Aesthetics really is an insignificant factor. But if you really can't bear through the ponies & the colors because of whatever reason, then I can't force you.

Well you don't know that since you haven't watched both shows.

I know enough that you shouldnt put them in the same sentence.

Both shows are just so incredibly different in all conceivable ways.

Maybe the show is good. Maybe it's got a lot of great humor, good writing, and social commentary. That still doesn't change the fact that the show was made specifically for little girls. As good as it may be, it isn't made for manly guys like me and Gilgamesh.

Here's the deal: I won't watch My Little Pony if Lisa Simpson doesn't play for the school football team.

Manly Guys? So, you aren't going to watch this show because you are Manly?

That is possibly the worst reason I've heard for not watching this show so far.

At least you aren't being too ridiculous, and saying that it may be a good show, as some people are in this thread. It still doesn't mean you should think you can't or shouldn't watch a show because you are a manly man.

To be 100% honest, when I was very young, I watched G.I. Joe, Transformets, Inhumanoids, and......Jem and the Holgrams, Care Bears, and My Little Pony.  I actually liked those shows, too. I liked every cartoon.  These days, I have to say I don't watch any TV except for Futurama, American Dad, CNN, and WWE.  It's not like I'm incapable of enjoying a show clearly marketed for little girls.  My little girl watches this show (I've yet to see a single episode) but she also watches Batman, Avengers, Spider-Man, Young Justice, and more.  The "Manly Man" comment was actually a bit of a lame joke (and before I put Gilgamesh's name there, I had Jay520's name in that place.)

Oh, and Lisa Simpson DID play football.

I'm not going to watch the show because it's not for me.  I don't think I'll enjoy it.  Just like if I saw a movie trailer and it didn't look like something I would enjoy, I'm not going to go out of my way to watch it unless something changes my mind.  From what I've seen of MLP, it's not offering anything that I can't get anywhere else and the presentation doesn't make me want to watch it, either.  That's just the way it is.

Since none of those factors affect the quality of the show, why would that therefore affect you watching it?

I still recognise good and bad art. Examples: I think every other cartoon made today is terrible. The first series of BBT is actually OK.

I guess well leave it at this. agree to disagree.

OK. I wasn't trying to convince you it was good, only to say that the reasons it is liked are the same as any other TV show.

Just so we are clear. Presentation > quality to you?

No. Presentation + quality = enjoyment

And seriously....you mention MLP and GOT in the same sentence in the real world to GOT fans......lol let me know how that goes

The show is a good show, nothing life changing but a very good cartoon which is rare to find these days. But what I love about MLP is the fanbase and what they have been able to produce in Art, Music and Fan Fiction.

Former something....
