Forums - PC - Dark Souls PC specs suggest microphone required for multiplayer? Update: a mistake, no voice chat in the game

Minimum system requirements for Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition released earlier suggested the PC release would utilise a microphone during multiplayer. Namco has said the listing was in error, as the game does not support in-game voice chat.

EvilAvatar spotted the specs on GameStop, but they also appear on the game’s Steam store page.

The inclusion of a microphone would have run counter to From Software’s past approach to multiplayer in both Demon’s Souls and the console version of Dark Souls; both games failed to include voice support and the developer discouraged planned encounters with friends.

That said, Dark Souls’ use of covenants helped like-minded players find co-operative buddies, and improved matchmaking was promised for the PC version.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition launches on PC in late August, and includes new content which will release as DLC for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions.

Perhaps it's been mentioned already but has there been confirmed cross platform online functionality between either the 360 or PS3? Skullgirls for the PC supposedly will implement such a function, so it would be great to see more multiplats support it as PC communities are known to be rather small for multiplats.

Also having played Demon's Souls I would not be overly fond of voice chat, I feel as though that anonymity from those who aid you really helps with the immersion. Then in the event you're playing with a friend there's always Skype on PC or party chat on 360.

Well it's GFWL so they won't be doing cross game play with PS3, and MS don't seem to want cross platform play anymore. So I think it's safe to say that there won't be any cross game play. That is ignoring the fact that they said multiplayer would be handled a bit differently on PC.

The first part of the OP, when you posted
