Forums - Sony - Vita will die without a price cut in 2012

Well, the future is looking grim with that price and without any system sellers. There are not enough dedicated gamers looking for a hardcore handheld experience, and the dedicated casual gamers prefer smartphones, iPads and the 3DS.

Still, it shouldn't die because of that. All Sony need to do to keep it alive is to keep spending money on it.

The problem is not the price.

$250 for a 5' inch OLED display and a chipset that's basically double what's in the current iPhone (8 cores right?) is a pretty sweet deal actually.

It's the same price the PSP launched at and successfully launched at.

The problem is both price and games. No 250$ is not a sweet deal, since most people buy consoles to play games, not to have a fancy hardware to display. The 3DS actually has better games and a better price, so there's no competiton.

The PSP succesfully launched because the DS wasn't particulary competitive in its first year. Also beacuse PSP was a portable multimedia device. The PSV is useless as a multimedia device, since any smatphone or mp4 player can do the same things while being smaller and with a longer battery autonomy.

Sony don't really know how long the OLED-screen will last: the quality is getting lower every year where LCD-screen has still the same quality after 5 years. I think they just wait how it turns out before a pricecut.

they don't always announce price cut at E3, because they sometimes do it at Gamescom Germany. Said to be the world's largest trade fair, and games entertainment. So it makes sense to do it there.

Here we go again..

But the sale of the ds in first years is very bad compared then the next years.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

It wont die without a price cut. But without one theres no hope of them hitting their projection of 10 million vitas sold this financial year. No chance. Next year will be crucial for the system.

I got a vita on launch but casual game more on my iPad. Software price is also a issue such as Plant vs Zombies being $2.99 on iPad but $16.95 on vita. Sony can't compete against that competition.
