Ive tried 2 different routers. I have one router which is connected through the house to another in the lounge which is plugged into the phoneline. But have tried connecting directly to that one aswell. everyother device works fine. ps3, phone etc. it gets an ip address on the vita and connects but NAT just keeps failing is there a way to change nat type on vita

to change your nat type, this might help.

Try McDonald's Wifi. If that works, it must be some weird setting issue. If it doesn't, go exchange it for a new one.

Maybe just return it or send it in if non of that works. Does Sony have ( I am sure they do) a help line you can call like Nintendo does?

I bought it of trademe which is our ebay basically. to be honest I think im going to need a new router. what a pain.

Before you buy a new router, find an open public WiFi network and see if you can connect to that to determine whether it's your network and settings, or the Vita.
