How does it make any sense that the wealth of the unfortunate is dependant on our prayers? I mean, God gave us free will,

I can't prove you wrong in this thread.  Lord works in mysterious ways and all.  However, I can now prove you wrong in some other thread......

You are looking at it from an understandable point of view (which I believe Jay also brought up), where the actual prayer is a way of showing God that you trust Him.

However, "Thy will be done" remains the optimal prayer. God has the perfect will and knows what is best for everyone. Trying to work against it is a bad idea (like for example asking Him to feed the poor, as mentioned in the OP), because you cannot possibly know whether God wants certain parts of the world to starve or not.

You may also not have realized that God can, and does change his mind concerning things sometimes. He created us so he would have someone to "hangout" with, not someone to command around.

Well, unless the scenario also has changed when he changed his mind I wouldn't call him a perfect deity. You can't have a perfect god that goes "Ok, let's feed these people over here." and then halfway through goes "WAIT! I forgot that if all of these people are fed, then I won't encourage the wealthy people to commit good actions aimed at them. I better abort this."

Simply put: It shouldn't be in God's nature to change his mind unless a new reason to do so has popped up. Before making up his mind he should always consider every possible factor regarding the subject.
