Forums - Gaming - AT&T predicts data-only plans within two years

Ooo, this is starting to get pricey.

So, I'd have to buy an iPod touch, a 3G/4G converter, and some kind of data plan. Or, I could keep my phone, not buy the iPod touch/converter, and buy the data plan.

I know which I would rather do.

No. My whole point with the iPod Touch is that if you are one of those people who want a "Portable PC" then don't get a Cell Phone in the first place!

Get an iPod Touch, and get the Mi-Fi thing. Then all you would have to do is have the data-plan that is already in place for the Mi-Fi's.

I still don't understand why you're complaining. Why are you moaning about more choice. You might not see the value in this product, but others will, me included.

Because I find it to be a worthless option. Why not go with the Data + Everything Else package? You have data and you have what a Cell-Phone is really made for, calling and texting. I see where you are coming from but I just don't see why there needs to be a totally different package.

Because it would be cheaper? I'm not interested in such a service but it's easy to see how others would want it.

With services like iMessage, Facetime, Google Voice, etc., it would be quite easy to use a cell phone without an actual voice plan.

because a data only package would be awesome. there are tons of sevices like skype that can make calls over the internet.  so for only a modest change in functionality i could reduce my phone costs to around half.

damn, less money for similar service.  i can totally see why you'd be upset by that...
