Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft ramping up Kinect development in China

Are you excited about Kinect? Do you want to revolutionize the way people interact with PC and games? Then you may just be interested to hear that they ‘are ramping up a development team in China’, according to two job descriptions 123KINECT spotted.

But, not just the expansion to China is important, no. As the new hires will report into the ‘Server & Tools Business’, whereas other Kinect job offers usually report into the Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB). This shows that Microsoft is targeting information technology professionals, rather than the end customers, with these new hires. One way to draw information technology professionals out there to develop for Kinect is by ensuring that developing products or apps around Kinect is cheap. To allow for this, the new hires will need to develop a test automation framework, or so the job descriptions tell us. Such a framework allows for affordable testing of Kinect apps to ensure predictable quality of the apps, which not just helps the app developer, but also the end customer and the Kinect brand / platform.

So yes, Microsoft wants to establishing a ‘developer community for Touch-free NUI on Windows, with Kinect at its center’. Having developers for Kinect in the UK, Vancouver, Redmond and now China, shows the commitment of MS to Kinect, yet again.
