Well I did my first day of laddering on plat and I got destroyed at the exception of a couple wins at the end of the day. The good thing is I am learning every cheezy attack on earth as this is what 50% of the players do. In one evening I saw : - 2 protos canon rush - 1 4 gateway - 1 6 pool zerg ( should have won that one but forgot that zerglings need less space than marines to walk btw building...) - 1 ultra fast banshee. Some guys will actually go far to cheese you. I beat the second canon rush and the dude transitioned to mass void rays.. I beat 1 one 4 gate attack ( found every pylon before they could be used and destroyed them) and the guy came back with dark templar.. Still I am learning a lot... I could cheeze back but that does not teach me much so aside from one quick banshee that gave me a quick win I am sticking to my macro game... One thing for sure is that from now on if I quick expand against Zergs or protoss I am building my command center in my main, upgrading to orbital and then flying it in........ No more building in its spot crap..
PS : I don't think I will stay in plat for long. I am matched up against silver mostly and the AI says they are favored or slightly favored....

As Terran, all of those cheeses are easily defensible. Just wall in fast preventing all 2gates, cannon rushes and early pool timings, and if you don't scout P or Z expanding within 5-6 minutes then build bunkers+pull SCVs to repair and assume 4gate / roach all in. Against 4gate, stay in your base no matter what. Don't move out until he has completely gone away, your extra SCVs and in base extra CC if you have one already put you ahead.
Don't fast expand (CC first or 1 rax FE) until you are familiar with the game and know what to look for when scouting.
If you hold a cheese and are ahead it's OK to spend money to make sure he can't get at you with some other surprise. Scans are very good.

I have started to scout but mainly to locate the enemy base on maps where it is random.
As soon as my orbital is up I use the first energy to scan the enemy base ( typically when my scv gets to their base it's too early and i can't see the cheese yet so I need the scan). I think the next step is hidding my SCV next to his natural to see if he expands ( which would give me a nice counter to build a barrack there if he canon rush or 6 pool, I just have to hide it behind the gas instead of right on the natural spot.))
I just need to stay focused and I know I can beat most of them.
Fought against another canon rush at lunch and that was close, I lifted a barrack to drop it near his base but he detected it or he was dead ( i chose a poor location), I made like 4 mistakes in that game or I would have beaten him ( killed first pylon with SCVs but went for building canon instead of second pylon, didn't try to repair or lift the barrack being attacked, didn't micro my marines well and dropped the barrack on his natural spot instead of hidding it inside his base ( it was Antigua))). Otherwise I would have easilly beaten him because he was all in on canons so even with my build up slowed down I would still have been ahead..
