i still like the game though

Only played Gears 1 and that was pretty bad, almost laughable even. But it's oscar worthy compared to game writing found in Vanquish. Without a doubt for me the lamest story and writing of the generation, but still a fantastic game in the end.

Don't agree with this at all. Each character was unique as well as the storyline. The books are good as well. Gears of war has a big backstory and I for one as I know for others was looking forward o the story. The only thing is that they have cheesy one liners when they kill somone which isnt really the story. That is more for laughs and fun.

I remember Laughing when Dom Kills his GF in Gears2, It was just out of place and pathetic. Terrible writing, fantastic gameplay.

Dead Space 2 didn't have a good story either.

Eh seems like a useless attack by a developer on a franchise bigger than him.

That being said Gears of War is by no means a top tier story in terms of the writing. That being said Gears 3 was quite a nice step up but certainly nothing on the level of say Halo, Uncharted, Elder Scrolls, Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, Mass Effect or any of the other heavy hitters in story writing.

But thats not even the point of Gears anyways its meant to be a bombastic, adrenaline rush, summer movie type game and when it comes to that its absolutely perfect at it.

I actually enjoyed the writting in the Gears games. Yes there were very cheesy parts to it but I feel it suited the gameplay style.

Gears is bad but it ain't that bad - i.e. the worst. I reckon a fair few titles I've played had worse writing than Gears. Gears is also very much the mindless summer blockbuster anyway - it's not like it's trying to be anything more than that.

I think you didn't understand the intent of Vanquish's dialogue then.
