Developpers in America have realized that they need to release their games on Japanese consoles and handhelds in order to survive, because they control 70% of console market
Console sales
Japanese gaming
Wii: 95 million
DS: 150 million
PS2: 155 million
PS3: 63 million
PSP 75 million
American gaming
360: 65 million
Almost all generations of gaming have been dominated by the Japanese right? Last gen PS2 had 75% of the market, this gen the Japanese still have around 70% market share of home consoles and 100% of handheld market, nothing has changed, Japan still dominates like usual.
Developpers
Sony
Nintendo
Capcom
Konami
Namco
Are all Japanese right?
European devs:
CryTek
Ubisoft
Rockstar
Lionhead
DICE
Code Masters
Creative Assembly
Eventough American shooters have become more popular, the Japanese still sell the most games: Mario Kart Wii 31 million
If I really think about it, many of the games I enjoy, on the consoles I enjoy are not American. Even in the shooter genre where Americans dominate, I still like European shooters better(Crysis, Killzone, Battlefield)
