It's clear that they're punting that way, or something very close to it, between the HUB's promos for season 3 (that line about a pony discovering her true destiny) and the implication of the season 3 opener tying Twilight more closely to Celestia and Luna.

The only problem is i could see that potentially be a bad idea from a toy perspective as much as a good one. I'm assuming that the target market is meant to sympathize with Twilight as a sort of plain-jane everygirl (but with the requisite special talents for a fantasy series protagonist, like Harry Potter, who managed to pull off "sympathetic average kid who is secret wizard quite well) who's just trying to do well in school and make friends. Making her a Princess would be ideal for a little girl's fantasy wish-fulfillment perspective, but also break the believability factor, and shatter the underlying theme of the franchise as that would drop one great hell of a barrier between Twilight and the other Manes.

On the other hand, however, the writers could play into it, and make a more drama-focused season four, where the entire myth arc is similar to the lesson of "Sweet and Elite" making the whole thing about Twilight's struggle to not grow apart from her friends due to her new status, so who's to say?

It's all about execution.

No more Derpy sucks ass, but that was to be expected. As much as i'm about political correctness, i do feel that comedy shows should get more leeway in that regard.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Now now Soleron. It's not like this show was ever intended for us anyway. Hasbro can do whatever they want.

I'll admit I'll be the first to flee the moment/if shit hits the fan and the plot of MLP takes a turn for the worse, but I won't be depressed by it. I'll remember the good times.

That said, I'd still LOVE to witness the Brony fallout and backlash. I love a good meltdown. The internet will explode and I'll bring my popcorn.

The show and the toys are more popular than they have been since the 80s with the target demographic. Why mess with that? So they can squeeze an extra $20 per head in the short term?

The show isn't for us, yes, but meaningful story and not sacrificing to toys are qualities children pick up on as well.

Eh, i'd think the target market would just squee at the idea of Twilight being an Alicorn, which, admittedly, is kind of a cool idea until you think of the story ramifications.

I'm more concerned that it's a return to the G3 attitude about making a show. Also combined with the financial call quote that spending less on content was acceptable now that Hub was established. That specific thing isn't so bad for the kids, I agree.

Toys sell because of mythos. WIthout that they are just bits of plastic. Any reduction in show quality or integrity would affect that.

Their solution to the financial thing seemed to be just about cutting season in half, but there is at least the appearance that the per-episode budget has increased.

For now, i'll leave them the benefit of the doubt.

Yes. Content of this quality is not to be taken for granted and I'm glad three seasons of it even exist, even if we do not get a fourth.

I think that's a terrible idea to change the show just to sell more toys but Hasbro does prefer to make profit and it does seem it is heading that way, but who knows maybe the writers would be able to work with twilight's new change.
