Magic as depicted really throws all reasonable discussion of an economy away.

I almost wanna see an episode where an adult pony shows up with a blank flank. The aesop could be that just because people don't have something they excel in (the idea behind the Cutie Marks) doesn't mean they are less valuable than those that do. I know it won't happen though since the idea is everyone gets one.

Pinkie Pie was awesome this episode. Redemption.

Also, there was some discussion about Equestrian economics. Half of the ponies in the country seem to be on the Dole, for one.

Wait, what?

Sorry, i tend to use "on the dole" for public employees (when really that means "on welfare"), which is bad because i want to be a government employee (even if those dickwads seem hesitant to hire me, like everyone else).

But many ponies do seem to be public employees: let's take the Cloudsdale Pegasi, who provide the public service of rain and could not possibly work in a free-market context. Or Fluttershy, who is doing a public service with animal care, but clearly (from "Putting Your Hoof Down") has an income somehow. Twilight is a subsidized grad-student, doing library work as a work-study.

@ Soleron: the only thing magic really does is preclude the development of mass-production, but even without magic, the Earth Ponies seem to function best as small producers, and the only wealthy individuals seem to be either in the Arts, old-style aristocracy, or merchants.

The question is how the system functions with so many public employees when you don't have mass-production to provide a viable tax-base (you can't support a large tax-base on the backs of small producers, as evidenced by the middle ages where the governments usually didn't even have enough money to provide a full-scale military.)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

lol. In discussing No More Heroes 2 (where Tara Strong provided a minor vocal role), i was referencing this YouTube vid about the theme music for the boss that she voiced (which was also one of the best bosses in the game), and the entire comments section is an argument over bronyism

Good episode, glad to see you guys not being too over critical. =3

Scootaloo needs her own episode, we don't know anything about her.

As for the song being repetitive, I think it was intentional to resemble the cheesy 80s cartoon chase songs. Especially G1 Scooby Doo. That's what hit me immediately. As a matter of fact, I call internet dibs for when it becomes obvious that that's exactly what it's referencing.

While I'm at it. The early Scooby Doo was my favorite cartoon growing up in the late 80s early 90s. When the culprit was always someone in disguise. This new scooby doo crap that I see my neblings watching is just too much meh for me.

I'm pretty sure that Scooby Doo video is from the 60's but yeah I get what you're saying. The stupid song has been stuck in my head all day. >_<
