On the one hand, yes, that is a possibility.  However, the colors are so completely different that I think it's probably nothing more than a straight parody of American Gothic with no added meaning.

The analogue was obvious enough, but you never know. According to rumored episode titles, we might get a crack at it (although i don't know why such a big deal is made of AJ's parents, when we've seen neither hide nor hair of Dash's or Flutter's parents, and nobody seems to care)

I suppose it's the fact that she lives on the farm with the rest of her family.  It does make you wonder where they are if not on the family farm with their small child.  There are certainly plausible explanations though.

Yea, I think it is mostly due to the fact that AJ has the biggest emphasis on family with her character and yet you don't see her parents ever, seems kind of weird.

I'm not hyped for this episode because of the adventure styling similar to S1E2.

But I am hyped for S3 in general.

You don't like the more fantasy-styled episodes?

I tend to find those the better ones. Dragonshy, Dragon Quest, or ones that are less fantasy but still more epic like Over A Barrel, The Mare in the Moon, and the Return of Harmony.

It's the last two specifically I don't like. They seem so insincere. I'm not saying they're bad episodes but I can't get into the greater pony mythos.

The closest this ever came to a normal kids show was S1E2, having to defeat six challenges, one per element in a straight line, and then the big evil was defeated with the power of love or something.

If there are villains I very much prefer them to be personal.

A commercial's already spoiled it: Too Many Pinkie Pies is definitely an upcoming episode.

You can also see the impact of increased production values despite the shortened season.
