In my honest opinion, yes, that is a little too much to ask because people are not gonna change just because we don't like the way they think... as wrong as they are or as much as we think they are wrong.

We see hate all the time in almost every aspect of life. It's unfair, yes. It may get better with time - for opinions to change, minds to mature, and for hate to disappear. 

Ignorant hate does not easily vanish. Some people are hateful bastards by nature true, but I believe the majority of hate is just lack of understanding. We don't understand something, we hate it. By our nature we tend to hate things that we don't comprehend because it makes us uncomfortable.

and then there's the social aspect of it all that you are so familiar with.
