Forums - Sales Discussion - NPD January: X360 #1 270k, 49% share, PS3 > Wii = 281k Combined

wait a sec if this is true (the estimates)
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=458765

then the 3ds did about 1.6mil in december right...so 10% of that is roughly around 160k?!

So PS3 probably did ~170K-180K, while the Wii only did ~100K-110K.  Looks like Wii might drop below 100K in the next month or so.  Well, that is if the PS3 didn't do better than 180K, or it may have already dropped below 100K.

So, after a lengthy day, we can narrow it down to:
1. XBox360 approx. 270k
2. PS3 approx. 190k
3. 3DS approx. 175k
4. Wii approx. 150k

That cant be right drkohler...

PS3 and wii need to be a combined 280k. The way you have it there, PS3 and wii sold approx 340k, thats too high.

It should be something like - PS3 approx 170 - 180k

                                                   Wii approx 100 - 110k

Edit: Also this is only if we have a reliable source that PS3 sold more than 3DS...havnt really been following the thread so im not sure about this? Can anyone confirm?

This (according to what info is out there)

If you take into account the terrible numbers from everybody, PS3 had a decent showing, with the 360 leading but not as convincingly as before, with both Nintendo consoles doing badly, specially the 3DS IMO.

Very curious to see the Vita numbers next month, is the market in need for new consoles or are dedicated gaming consoles losing marketshare for cheaper smartphone games and with the steady PC gaming increase with services like Steam?

Still intrigued by the fact that no adjustments will be made in our data in January and going forward, we are seeing US market getting bigger in November and smaller in the next few months, it can be a trend or not who knows. (I still think we have consoles, according to NPD, overtracked in December, at this point, who knows what is right)

If the 28% drop is true, that puts the PS3 around 192k (267k on Jan/2011).
Which added to the aprox. 340k units combined (between PS3 and Wii), then that puts the Wii at around 148k (did 319k on Jan/2011).

So, the overall aprox. numbers are something like:

360: 270k (confirmed)
PS3: 192k (28% drop from same month last year)
3DS: 150k (Nintendo info saying that it's at "more than 4.25 million", last month was at "more than 4.1 million")
Wii: 148k (over 340k [PS3+Wii] - over 192k [PS3] = over 148k])

With 3DS and Wii probably alternating positions and give or take few extra thousands.

Extrapolation of unit sales based on that 51% number would be wrong. PS3 & Wii accounted for more than 340K combined. Unfortunately, that's as specific as I can be

Im reading the comments and everything they are saying is pure speculation unless im mistaken??

The ps3 down 28% yoy is not backed up with facts (as far as i know)

Also the one member simple says their that extrapolation based on marker share % is wrong but does not give a reason or a source.

Im sorry but i just dont see it can you maybe explain why you are being so trusting of what that one member is saying?

How trust worthy is this Petrae guy, anyway?  Just asking because I don't really frequent Gaf, plus I don't see how he's getting his numbers if MS already announced a 49% marketshare (which is where Seece got the 281K).  It seems he has access to NPD's numbers, but has that been confirmed in the past?
