Forums - Politics - Would a Machiavellian Style Politician be an Effective Leader of a Country Today?

Pretty simple question really.  Do you think that Machiavelli's "Prince" would be an effective leader in today's political societies or is such a leader morally acceptable if one wants to get on a discussion of ethics.  But more importantly, would such a leader benefit or harm today's countries?  I definitely have my own thoughts about it, but I'll see what others think before I provide mine haha.

Well I think most would agree that money and power do corrupt.  Not entirely sure, though, as to how this relates to Machiavelli haha.  Could you explain further, if you don't mind, as I'm probably just not putting something together haha.

I don't see why not.

Well the parts that aren't directly related to princedoms anyway.

I mean hell, the Art of War is still used today...

in buisness!

Chapter 16 for example seems to be a severe warning to western governments that has gone long ignored as can be seen by the Europeon Debt Crisis.  Although it's hard to follow said warning when not an absolute prince and the otherside is giving away the farm.
