Back on topic. I've already got the WiiU on preorder and i'm paying it off on a fortnightly basis so i dont have to miss out.

wow.. wont that cost so much more in the long run?

How so? Its like a lay-by before the console even launches. I slap down a $50 deposit on the WiiU, pay off that pre-order at $20 per fornight or whatever so that by the time the WiiU launches, i'll have put enough money on the pre-order to pay for the console, 2-3 launch games, and maybe an extra controller or some Nintendo Points. Its the same as simply saving the money myself, but i'm putting it somewhere where i can't touch it. Does the pre-order system in the US differ from that where i come from (Australia)?

ahh sorry, i thought you meant (they do this in the UK not sure in Australia) but you pick up your concole, TV, fridge or whatever on the day for like £20 then you pay it back every month.. but it ends up being like £300 more then if you had just brought it on day one paying the whole price

Hmm hard to say without seeing any details about x720/ps4.

But based on current directions of big 3.
PS4 - almost sure - Sony is the only one who caters to demanding gamers
Wii U - I might buy it - if it receives plenty of exclusive jrpg support
X720- would only happen if they moneyhat whole japanise industry and buy CD Projekt

It's too early to decide, but I'm guessing I won't.
Chances are I'm gonna get anything Nintendo and Sony trow at me anyway.

if the WiiU has games i want at launch i will get it the day it is out. i only need one game and I will get it!

All but totally confirmed:

Darksiders 2

Ninja Gaiden 3

Pikmin 3

Project: Cars

Metro: Last Light

Ghost Recon: Online

Lego City Stories

Some sort of compilation of games like Chase Mii and Battle Mii

The selection of confirmed titles so far is pretty good. I can't confirm which ones will be launch titles, but Pikmin 3, Darksiders 2, Ninja Gaiden 3 and Lego City Stories seem more confirmed than the rest. E3 will reveal all! :D

I may end up just buying all three as they come out if I give in to consumer buying frenzy.

But, buying frenzy for me will depend largely upon availability of any given console. If any one of them becomes so severely supply constrained, I'm far more likely to buy one the first time I see one on shelves.

On the more likely odds that none of them will be supply constrained, whether intentional or not, then I'll feel absolutely no rush to buy immediately. I'll take a more measured approach and simply pick one up when there are apps available I want to buy immediately that aren't on other platforms.

Already made the mistake of buying the 3DS on day 1 for the next gen; would have been fine without one until they dropped the price and would still be fine without one today since I'm still waiting on RE Revelations and MGS3D.

If the PS4 replaces the PS3 as a media/set top box hub and plays PS3 games (and isn't priced unreasonably for a game console), I'll probably pre-order one so I can box up the PS3, regardless of the initial PS4 game library.

If the Wii U is priced as low as some of the guestimates are calling out (as low as $250, which I think is ridiculous unless they're being produced for well under $150), then I'll probably pre-order one. Over $300 and I'll just wait until there's something for the platform that I really want to try out. I would say Wii BC would play a factor, but the truth is I really don't play any Wii games anymore (still haven't played my second session of Skyward Sword).

Any Xbox 3 purchase will probably depend largely upon Kinect 2.0 and how well it's integrated into the UI and any games. If it's just more Wii-like family games, and the same "it works but not really" functionality, then it goes without saying that I won't care. It's likely that my Windows/MS gaming platform will be completely covered by PC as the few 360 exclusives that I bought this generation simply didn't justify my need to adopt the platform. Since I don't game on XBL, there really isn't any incentive for me to play on the Xbox. On the unexpected chance that MS diverts all its internal studio resources into making more games like Halo, or scoring more exclusives like Gears of War (but not Halo or GoW since I'm pretty much done with both franchises), then the odds of me picking one up earlier go up considerably.

Wow, only just now saw the console logo's on the WMD website, glad to see Project: Cars coming to consoles, *Feels proud about investing money in the game*

Interesting question. I tend to buy all systems though so it's more a question of which appeals most and in what order I buy them.

This gen I got PS3 then Wii then 360. Next gen might be completely the other way around - depends on the systems.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I probably wn't switch as Sony hasn't let me down yet, but the WiiU is a possibility. I will prob buy a Wii once the WiiU comes out though as it should be really cheap at that point.

Technically, the Wii U is going to be a current generation console, not next gen.

But anyway, at the moment I am not likely to make the switch as soon as another console comes out.

Thats just ignorant. The WiiU runs a HD48xx series GPU at least 5 times faster than the Ps3. Since PC hardware hasnt gotten significantly faster in the last 2 years, even if the Ps4/Nextbox had Ati 6000 series GPU equivalents, the might be 20% more powerful than the WiiU at the most. Next gen is going to be an even closer playing field than the current gen and all 3 consoles will be 4-5x more powerful than the current HD offerings, allowing for every single game to run Full HD, with AA, and smoothly. The WiiU is definitely Next Gen. Why do people seem to think that because the Wii didn't have HD that it wasn't in the same generation as the Ps3/360? A generation is defined by the consoles that are competing for sales for any reasonable length of time.

Sorry about that. Fanboys make me mad.

This is just amusing considering everyone knows Rol is just about the biggest Nintendo "fanboy" on VGC.

And the RV770 GPU that is reportedly being used in the Wii U dates back to mid 2008. Most likely the rough equivalent of a custom HD 4850. By the time the Wii U is commercially in available in late 2012, it will be almost 4 year old GPU technology.

No one's even speculating what either the Xbox 3 or PS4 will be using, so this "20%" number that I'm assuming you pulled blindly out of a hat is not only a guestimate, but in all likelihood, a ridiculously low ball one.

Rol was most likely joking (if so, congrats; you just got Rol'd). If not, take it to mean that the specs on the Wii U make it more like a Gen 7.5 console, much like the Wii was essentially Gen 6.5 hardware.

Even if someone felt inclined to release an all new 8 bit console in 2012, that wouldn't make it Gen 8 hardware.

Pikmin 3 is the only one that will make me buy it. All the others are a maybe
